I'd love to get a talented big man that can play down low. It would make those damn West Virginia games more fun if we could keep them off the offensive glass. Big weekend ahead. Getting him to campus is huge for us. I don't think it's ever been anything but positive.

Side note: Am I the only one not impressed by shattered backboards at all? I've seen thousands of dunks over the years and the ones that shatter backboards all look the same to me. Guy dunks, backboard shatters, guy lands awkwardly on his back while backboard pieces rain down on him. I'm always amazed more guys don't get hurt badly when that happens.

I agree. It was cool when Jerome Lane did it. It hasn't been since.

I had a high school teammate shatter two our senior year and he was a 6'3" guard. One in practice and one at our conference rival during the game to determine conference champion. They literally brought in a beat up steel backboard from the outside playground and we ended up losing the game because it was second half and we had to shoot at that the rest of the game.

I'm not at all. I'm not in high school.

Sorry for the thread derail. Let's go get Stokes! If he shatters one at Hilton, hopefully it means he's on the team and not part of the SEC challenge

Lost Nation, IA vs Bennett, IA in 1983 (at Bennett). I don't remember what happened in practice but in the game he stole and went to dunk and was fouled from behind. Never got the ball high enough, pushed on the rim from the bottom side and backboard shattered. Delayed game an hour or so while they cleaned up players and brought in the old backboard.

There were probably not many, if any, high schools that had breakaway rims in 1983.

I will say that watching Shaq rip the intact backboard to the ground and break the entire hoop assembly was awesome. You don't usually see that.

"In Jersey, Derrick Coleman dunked on me...so I said to myself, the next time we play Jersey, I'm going to rip the damn backboard off." - Shaq
