You picked their handful of best ones -- I picked their handful of worst ones.
The absolute best teams in the country... Gonzaga, Virginia, Texas Tech, Michigan, Duke... were not almost losing to effluvia like Stanford and NMSU at home.
You can say a W is a W, but any reasonable person should conclude that being scared by bad teams at home probably means you are not quite tippy-top elite.
Doke moves the needle on the team last year, yes, and I think he will be a first-team all-Big 12 guy next year if he comes back healthy and strong like he should.
But the idea he was the difference between the blah ~#20 Kansas that you got and maybe being one of the, oh, five best teams in the country last year...?
Nope.
They were not playing anything near that level when he was healthy. Yes, they had some nice wins, but never on the road, and they had some awful performances against bad teams at home, even if they ended up winning those games. You have to average that out.
Their problem was not with the big men. Doke only piled onto a strength. Their problem was with guard play and shooting. A healthy Doke does not help with that.
