Is golf a sport?

BTW, JD has lost almost 50 lbs in the last year due to working out.

Actually, Daly had lap band surgery...

sorry....Hiking is TOUGHER to do than golfing...

Sure, anyone can 'play' golf but very few can play it well... I can go run a marathon, doesn't mean i can do it well...

I would also be willing to be that you wont find any former pro athlete in better physical shape than Gary Player (73 yo).

No, Golf is not a sport. If a 59 year-old can almost win a tournament it's not a sport.

Very stupid comment. The age of competitors has nothing to do with if it's a sport or not.

Get your dictionary out peeps. Golf is a sport. Live with it. Can we close this silly thread now please. Or at least can we go back to debating whether golf is a sport or not instead of debating which "activity" is more physically demanding.

The talent and skill sets are completely different from sport to sport, but that has nothing to do with whether or not something IS a sport or not.

Baseball is 2 people playing catch and everyone else standing around. 3 minutes of action crammed into 3 hours.............I'd rather watch paint dry.

Last time I checked Motorcross has some of the best athletes. Control a 200 lb bike like that takes muscle, endurance, talent and learned skills. The heart rate of a motorcross rider is one of the highest for the longest period of time compared to most other sports. Just sayin...........

Golf rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have played just about every major sport and I rode motocross for a while. There is no question that motocross is the most physically demanding thing I have ever done.

At least Jeremy is getting a bunch of page clicks out of this thread - that's all it's worth.

Here's a question. Fishing has long been considered a "sport" - defined as such by Merriam Websters's Dictionary.

Are the guys on Deadliest Catch sportsmen? Does the activity cease to be a sport when it's a profession?

I can drink beer while watching it and be entertained. That's 3/4 of the argument right there......

Would that mean that those that play in pro leagues for a living aren't participating in sports?
