iowa vs Virginia

True, but the Big 10 is tough again this year, so they also can stumble a few times and still collect enough "good" wins to get in fairly comfortably I think.

Iowa's NET ranking is going to really hurt them if they don't pick up a couple of really big wins. Their out of conference schedule is crazy bad this year. Not playing in a holiday tournament is one thing but then filling out those games they way they did leaves little room for error.

Agreed, but the big 10 will provide plenty of opportunities to get those big wins.

This is true, but the NC SOS line on their nitty gritty sheets will stick out like a sore thumb. It will be a black mark that the committee will notice. Not to mention a high number of Q4 games on there as well.

and they are going to need to win several of those Q1 games. When you front load with a historically soft schedule you are absolutely killing yourself in the NET game. History shows you are better off losing some tough non con's than playing a bunch of Q4 games.

I'd be concerned about Utah St if I were an IA fan. Those type of games after a big one are always a grind.

I would be concerned with any decent offensive team because if Iowa has an off night offensively they will be a fairly easy out.

Honestly that VA game is going to help them all year. That's at least a Q2 win, probably a Q1 win, road games only need to be top 75.

They've got Utah State which will probably be a Q2 win. If they can get us, they'll be in a great position.

Then they have a 20 game Big 10 slate. I think they go 10-10 or so, and if so that probably puts them at 20 wins and in the tourney, that's a pretty dang good season considering what they lost.

can’t see Virginia being a Q1 win. They haven’t been good this year.

You are putting WAY too much stock into that VA game. The Cavs are going to be in for a long season.

I bet that games ages well for Iowa. Bennett has way too long of a successful track record for me not to expect them to improve as the year goes along. Also there's currently exactly one ACC team ranked, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Virgina finish top four in that conference

It will certainly be a quality win but there's no sugar coating it, VA is not good this year. Like you pointed out though, the ACC is really really down so yeah, VA may have an inflated record when it's all said and done.

Again it's just not that hard for a major conference team to be in the top 75 in the NET ranking. If that happens it's a Q1 win for Iowa.

Our 12-20 team 2 years ago was #96 in NET ranking and that team was terrible. if Virginia goes .500 this year they are probably top 75 in the NET which would be a big boost to Iowa.

Examples of teams that finished in the top 75 last year:

13-13 Georgetown
12-15 Indiana
9-16 Kentucky

Weird year I know but the point stands.

Teams outside the top 75 by major conference - 5 ACC teams, 3 Big 12 teams, 4 Big East teams, 4 Big 10 teams, 4 Pac 12 teams, 5 SEC teams. Basically you need to be a bottom 1/3 team in a P6 conference to not be top 75.
