iowa vs Virginia

Again it's just not that hard for a major conference team to be in the top 75 in the NET ranking. If that happens it's a Q1 win for Iowa.

Our 12-20 team 2 years ago was #96 in NET ranking and that team was terrible. if Virginia goes .500 this year they are probably top 75 in the NET which would be a big boost to Iowa.

Examples of teams that finished in the top 75 last year:

13-13 Georgetown
12-15 Indiana
9-16 Kentucky

Weird year I know but the point stands.

Teams outside the top 75 by major conference - 5 ACC teams, 3 Big 12 teams, 4 Big East teams, 4 Big 10 teams, 4 Pac 12 teams, 5 SEC teams. Basically you need to be a bottom 1/3 team in a P6 conference to not be top 75.
Yeah if I were a betting man (which I am), I would say Virginia figures some things out by March and is at least in the bubble conversation. Certainly a down year for them, though.

I haven’t watched Iowa this year but I can’t imagine their guard play will be able to withstand the constant hounding by our guards, could be wrong.

They do a decent job at high screens and ball movement to get 3s...and you just know they'll go off on us. Hopefully we steal the ball a lot like we did against Memphis...rattle them early and make them play catchup.

I agree but we need to be careful not to over play the ball, that's where Iowa could be dangerous.

As much as I hate Fran, he's a million times better coach than Penny is.

I expect a super competitive game that goes to the end. Team that executes best down the stretch wins.

I'm more worried about offensive production. Fran is going to throw a lot of zone at us so we need to work the ball and be patient. If you make Iowa play zone for a few ball reversals the middle usually opens as wide as

When looking at this match-up over the last several years, Iowa has been the more passionate team, which doesn't shock me because we haven't had any in-state players (or a coach) who really gets hyped up for the game. While we still don't have any in-state players, I'm very confident that TJ will have our guys playing like their hair is on fire and we will more than match Iowa's energy, so I have a much better feeling about this year's game.

When Iowa's struggled the past few years it's been in games where there guards are being defended physically. Their players have even bitched about it after those games. How we like to play and how they don't like to play should align great.

I thought this was interesting reading how everyone thinks Iowa can really score and the win at Virginia was a quality win. Remember, Virginia Tech is the team Memphis beat by 9 before we played them. I don't know if Virginia will come out of it.......but they are not a very good team right now.

For those who thought the Virginia win was a quality win.......check out their game tonight against Jimmy Madison. Let's face it..........UV blows.

So if ISU fans have one thing to worry about it will be this.......................we are the Hawks last chance to get a quality, resume building non conference win. They know this and are already batting .000 in conference play along with UV now being exposed. They will be very, VERY motivated Thursday night. They don't get us.......they will have to make some serious noise in the conference to make the dance. And I like our chance against a desperate Hawk team.

And what is it with these stupid adds that make the post look like this?
