Iowa vs. Big 12

How about a historical look at how ISU has done against the Big Ten:

All-time, minus Iowa and Nebraska, the Cyclones are 2-37 against the Big Ten Conference. Outside of beating Minnesota in 2009, the only other Big Ten team that the Cyclones have beaten in history is Illinios in 1969. They're 1-20-1 against Minnesota, 0-6 against Wisconsin, 1-3-2 against Illinois and 0-7 against Northwestern.

When you factor in that ISU is 16-37 all-time against Iowa, and 16-84 against Nebraska, you get a pretty good idea about where exactly ISU stands in relation to the Big Ten Conference.

By comparison, Iowa is 22-29 all-time against the teams of the Big 12 minus Iowa State. This includes Texas A&M and Colorado, both of which Iowa has played once in history. If you include Iowa State, Iowa has an all-time record of 59-45 against the teams of the Big 12.

In Bowl games, Iowa is 1-1 against Texas, 2-0 against Texas Tech, 1-0 against Missouri.

Historical being the key word here. Most of the losses are to Minnesota. At one time Minnesota was a national power during which I assume most of the games were played. What have you done for me lately?

Minnesota use to be one of the best football programs in the country. Now they are one of the worst. Indiana sucks. Purdue sucks. Northwestern is well coached but always beatable based on their lack of talent. Illinois is coached by Ron Zook and hasn't done much.

Iowa State would be much more competitive in the Big 10 competiting with teams similiar to them than they are in the Big 12. It's not even up for debate. The Big 12 in recent history has been much tougher.

It is so impossible to even make this argument that you're trying to make. The whole idea is ridiculous because it is 100% speculation. The only facts are that the only B10 teams you have played in the recent past are Iowa and Minnesota, unless my memory is failing. Disregarding the Iowa game, you have beaten a Minnesota team 14-13 who went 3-5 in the conference that year. That same year, Iowa State went 3-5 in their conference.

Would ISU do better in the B10? Maybe. Worse? Maybe. The only valid example of a head-to-head battle was in 09 against a very similar B10 team which you won by a small margin. So it could be said that for the most part, maybe you'd fare pretty much the same as you do now.. again though, this is all speculation so it's pointless.

You named 5 teams that you think you should be competitive with. How is that different from KU, KSU, Baylor, Mizzou, Colorado? ISU is 20-30 against them since 2000.

FYI:

# of bowls since 2000:

Purdue: 7 (1 BCS)
Minn: 8
Ind: 1
IL: 3 (2 BCS)
NW: 6

Baylor: 1
KU: 4 (1 BCS)
KSU: 6 (1 BCS)
Colorado: 5 (1 BCS)
Mizzou: 7

That's 25 to 23 in favor of those "weak" big 10 teams with an egual number of BCS games.

Let's have full disclosure:

Record for those Big Ten teams in those 25 bowl games: 6-19 (.240)
Same for the Big 12: 9-14 (.391)
