Iowa Nice Guy arrested

I worked with a guy who had seven. The extremely lax Wisconsin laws finally gave him some considerable jail time after he got #8.
Iowa law drops DWIs off after 10 years. Meaning you could get a DWI every 10 years and 1 day and it would always be considered your first. First one is generally a weekend in jail. So if you start at 20, go 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 with a day extra or so between, you could get your 7th at 80 and it would be considered your first.

Never had one, so not from experience but know a couple guys who have had repeat ones and didn’t know what it always said first and a lawyer friend explained it to me.

It's something built into the brains of people that grew up in rural areas that as long as you stay on side roads it's safe to drive drunk. These are the same people that say they "back the blue" but think their local cops are horrible people for not letting them drive impaired.

This is a borderline racist post, disgusting.

Yeah, that sounds terrible.

Wasn't terrible at all, I loved it...whenever we weren't working our asses off on the farm or playing every sport (since we needed the numbers) we had a lot of fun, could do basically whatever we wanted. Wouldn't be for everyone, particularly those that need a large amount of interaction with others, but I really enjoy solitude and dislike crowds/people in general anyway.

Sounds like a place where you hope the hot chick isn’t your cousin.

The fact that you made that singular is spot on........and luckily she wasn't my cousin. Having only 10-15 people in graduating class, most took their hormones to the next county.

My dad was nearly killed on a rural road by a drunk driver. Your opinion is stupid.
About half of the people I known that have been killed in DD accidents were killed on gravel roads. At least 6 were killed because they didn't have seat belts on more than anything. 4 got ejected and the vehicle rolled over them, 1 got ejected and froze to death, and one got ejected through the front windshield and hit a telephone pole.

I get over to Osage regularly, I’m from McIntire and have plenty of friends and family in Mitchell County.

The two communities are pretty freaking similar though. Just don’t tell someone who lives east of 63 that you’re in NE IA. You’ll get an earful about being a “flatlander”.
Jeez there are a bunch of people from my area on here. I'm from Riceville. Lived in Mac next to the Pit Stop for a while. Lived in Osage for a while. But spent most of my life in Riceville, before moving to the DM area now.

I remember back in like '94 a bunch of kids from Corydon got killed hill jumping on gravel down around Powersville, MO. Killed 4 or 5 of them. Bad deal.

That's a teen driving problem and why stuff like GDL was put into place.

'Why all of these restrictions?'

'Because humans, namely teenagers, are stupid'.

Jesus, this is a stupid conversation. How anyone can think drunk driving on a gravel road is safe is ludicrous. I'm embarrassed to count someone like that among Iowa State fans.

I have no idea on the stats, but I do know that when a person drives drunk they are likely not driving carefully or slowly. And I do know that driving too fast on gravel roads is dangerous and risky sober.

I knew a guy that had 8. It seemed like the more he got the less jail time he'd get. Weird how that works. Like after #5 they figure you'll never learn and don't want to pay to house you.
Do they still have a drivers license or are they just driving under the influence while barred?

Both. He had his license when he got his last one. They charged him over a bad motorcycle accident he had over by Afton. They even waited like a year and half for him to heal and just showed up at his house randomly and charged him. Took him to jail, he posted bond, and I don't think he ever did any other jailtime over it. I don't think he currently has his license but I know he is still driving drunk everywhere because he knows they won't really do anything to him.
