It's something built into the brains of people that grew up in rural areas that as long as you stay on side roads it's safe to drive drunk. These are the same people that say they "back the blue" but think their local cops are horrible people for not letting them drive impaired.

Driving drunk on an empty rural gravel isn’t that dangerous.

I’m not saying that should be legal, because driving drunk in a town is very dangerous, I’m just pointing that as a society we’ve been conditioned to view all forms of drunk driving as pathologically dangerous and that simply isn’t accurate.

I would not want to be the OP, if something really bad happens from all of this. There are potential legal consequences.....
Uh no? I posted something that is public record. I could post his mug shot anywhere and it still would be legal. Do you even know what you’re talking about?

and I really do hope he gets help and doesn’t drive under the influence again. He’s a public figure. He’s well known around Iowa. Why wouldn’t I post something that is public record that would possibly intrigue people.

This is not a good take. Some might say that coming from a moderator and staff member that you are being reckless.

What in the hell are you talking about? I’m aware that people act like one is suggesting you advocate murder when you present this opinion, but it doesn’t make it any less true.

Im not advocating that people do this, I’m simply saying it isn’t that dangerous. Which is why so many people do it.

how stupid^^^

" Approximately one-third of all traffic crash fatalities in the United States involve drunk drivers (with BACs of .08 g/dL or higher). In 2019, there were 10,142 people killed in these preventable crashes. In fact, on average over the 10-year period from 2010-2019, more than 10,000 people died every year in drunk-driving crashes.

In every state, it’s illegal to drive drunk, yet one person was killed in a drunk-driving crash every 52 minutes in the United States in 2019. "

They can de-mod me if they want. Again, I’m not saying people should do this. I’m saying the actual danger of this very specific activity is exaggerated by society.

I didn't realize you are a mod. You've once again become The Man.:mccaffery:

You may want to add that to the original post.

Issue is people take what they learned to higher risk situations.

That's the 'culture' part.

Many never get out of it though. I see at least one '5th OWI' story locally in the WI news each week. Just another day.

I knew a guy that had 8. It seemed like the more he got the less jail time he'd get. Weird how that works. Like after #5 they figure you'll never learn and don't want to pay to house you.
