Iowa new transfer?

Didn't you know they have that kid from Des Moines that had one BCS offer coming in? Heard he shot 40% from 3 in the mighty CIML...supposed to be the next Ogelsby!

Not saying Jok will be great, but let's not act like Thomas is the next Reggie Miller. Dude shot a mediocre 37% against pretty suspect competition in Wisconsin. Hardly impressive.

Who's talking ****? If trying to get so-called "fans" of your own team up to date on what really happened/went down with your own players is talking **** then I guess I am guilty. The "rape cover up" is so comically pathetic I'm not surprised it comes from the portion of your fan base that thinks Lucious wasn't in trouble with the law or Gary isn't a two time felon and still playing for your beloved Clones. Again, those in glass houses...... I never once denied the djk thing, rhabdo. It's certain idiots on this board who don't acknowledge the stains on your program (lattimer, berryman, Gary to name a few) that I'm addressing.

I agree. If you were really talking trash, that might be more fun. You'd fit the stereotype better.
As it is, this is interesting.

Digging pretty deep there if you call Dino Gaudio an expert. Pretty sad when an Iowa based website doesn't even agree with Dino.

Iowa Listed on Several 2013-2014 Top 25 Preseason Basketball Polls - Black Heart Gold Pants

The last, best ranking? Per Brendan Stiles, Dino Gaudio (former Wake Forest head coach) went on one of ESPN's shows and put Iowa at friggin' No. 5 in the nation, tops among all Big Ten teams. For real:

what

We can't find video of the... let's call it "incident" on ESPN.com, and that's because we're guessing a producer grabbed him after the segment and asked "what the hell was that?!" and doing the throat slash motion to make sure all evidence of the segment was destroyed. But one TwitPic survived! ...anyway, yeah, this is crazyballs.

Waiting for a link to iowa being picked as a top 5 team by an espn analyst still.
It's on page 9.

Yeah I doubt the 54th best player in the class of 2013 will end up doing well playing Hoiball.

He very well may. But 37% against the competition he faced is hardly stellar enough to put down a kid who shot better against suspect competition as well. Jok was very highly regarded until his injury. I think both will end up being good fits for their respective teams. Good bball teams is not bad for the state and will make the rivalry all the more exciting.

Matt Thomas also shot 48% from 3 against some of the best AAU players the summer before his senior year. I'd ask what Jok did on the AAU circuit but he was too busy eating Jethro's and taking visits to Drake.

Dumb

Length: implies athleticism.
Defense: generally requires athleticism.
Rebounding: generally requires athleticism.

So the reason you don't think Iowa has an athleticism problem is because you think they already have enough athleticism. This shows how little you watch basketball outside of Iowa games.

What was Iowa's 3pt shooting percentage last year? 30.5%. How are they going to get better? Who is going to take these threes? If only their coach was a former great shooter with a long NBA career . . .

Do you really think the difference between Iowa and say, Butler, is that Butler makes more 3s?

Iowa was 10th in the country in rebounds per game, and was top 25 in adjusted defensive efficiency. They clearly have good length with White, Marble, Basabe, etc. If they can accomplish that without great athletes, I can't wait to see what happens when Fran starts bringing in better athletes.

How do you get better at anything? Repetition. I feel pretty confident that Fran will emphasize perimeter shooting development over the course of the offseason. Jok and Uthoff will also be welcome additions, as they are both more than capable of knocking down an outside shot.

Yes, the 21 more rebounds that Iowa had than Iowa State spread out over a 33 game season that Iowa is highly statistically significant . . . more statistics fail.

Anyone who uses the RPI as the basis to any argument regarding college basketball loses any and all credibility. The RPI is an incredibly outdated model that does not factor in margin of victory and rewards teams for scheduling DII schools. Any ranking system that boasts New Mexico as the second best team in the country, as well as Colorado State and Belmont as top 20 teams this past season should be given no credence to any argument involving college basketball.

Three teams that are better than Io-a?

What'd I win?

That's a neat article and all, but Peter Jok was Iowa's Mr. Basketball this year
It's funny you say Wisconsin high school basketball is less than stellar but overall the product of basketball is likely worse in Iowa at the high school level.
