Sevenscore and seventeen years ago the Cyclones brought forth on thiscontinent, a new institution, conceived in Victory, and dedicated tothe proposition that the Hawkeyes suck.
Nowwe are engaged in a great Cy-Hawk series, testing whether our fans,or any University so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. Weare met on a great football-field of that war. We have come todedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for thosewho here gave their life that that Cyclone nation might live. It isaltogether fitting and proper that we should **** Iowa.
But,in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- wecan not hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, whostruggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to addor detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we sayhere, but it can never forget what they did here. It is rather for usto be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- thatfrom these honored Cyclones we take increased devotion to that causefor which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we herehighly resolve that these Cyclones shall not have played in vain --that this Cyclone nation, under God, shall have yet another triumph-- and that a University of the Cyclones, by the Cyclones, for theCyclones, shall not perish from the earth. And, most importantly,**** the Hawkeyes.
That would actually be pretty funny. But will our marching band form a tiger hawk eating a D at half time? What's the line on that?
