Iowa Beat Writers

Credit to Iowa for…checks notes…making a coach available to the media? Uhhhhh ok.

I mean it's really, really hard to cash those million dollar paychecks and potentially answer questions about why you suck at your job.

I think that game immediately followed Stanley's 5 TD game against OSU where the clubbed the buckeyes. Both of those games were complete outliers. That offense was way better than this one.

I mean this with no disrespect to Dekkers - The SEMO QB is better than Petras and it isn't close.

Ohio St got punched in the mouth early and they rolled over and just took it. That game was very weird and a complete outlier.

I think Brian getting “Hawkeyed” is the reason for the zoom media calls. Brian and his offense sure got “bleached” on Saturday.

To be fair the SEMO QB is better than a bunch of QBs.

They were bad, but he looked very good.
He played well, but I wouldn't get carried away. The kid was playing at the NAIA level 10 months ago. I agree he's better than Petras, but he'd probably be lucky to start for any Big 12 team, including KU.

Petras, also, would be lucky to start for KU.

Yesterday morning on KXNO Tyler Kluver said that Iowa would be a national title contender if they had a top 60 offense. LMAO you can't make it up.

Eickholt said yesterday on KXNO that Kirk is playing the Iowa fans booing as motivation for Saturday, and that has people like Trent Condon thinking Kirk will pull a "Kirk Special" outta his ass and destroy ISU.
They may very well beat us and handle us like last year but it’s not because Kirk pulls anything out of his ass. They will do what they always do and we’ll have to beat them. That’s how Kirk is and always will be.

Eickholt was arguing with fans on twitter during the game who were complaining about the offense and specifically the coaching staff's refusal to make a change at QB. He cited the offensive performance in the bowl win over USC 3 years age and then quickly deleted that lol.

Pretty funny to watch a supposed 247 beat writer defend the shield to the death

I keep hearing this all over. They got absolutely waxxed by a Michigan team that was completely outclassed by Georgia last year. The gap is HUGE.

Yes, their defense is really good, especially if you play to their strengths. I think CMC has learned his lesson here and trusts Dekkers to make the smart throws. I don't expect to see us try to establish the run too early.

To Iowa's credit, they somehow figured out the one zone Ohio State wasn't covering very well...underneath routes were open/working.

Bizarre anomaly

The key here is giving Hunter time to throw the ball because if he does that our receivers are going to be open. SDSU had receivers open a lot but their QB struggled with pressure and panicked a lot by just putting his eyes down and trying to make a play which resulted in sacks.

Other teams are going to "Iowa" them to death.....never letting their defense off the field. They're bound to get gassed week in and week out.
A lot of their defensive success is predicated on field position giving to them by their wonderful special teams. Their defense is no doubt good but when you constantly have the offense starting at the 10 yard line, the pressure becomes almost insurmountable for the offense, especially in Kinnick.
