He seems a decent guy. I've met him a few times. He's actually pretty fair with his reporting of ISU...at least outwardly on his program. He's somewhat passive/aggressive in his attitude about ISU. He's more than happy to bring up negative issues about ISU at times. (Like..."is Matt Campbell leaving" stories? "Big 12 possibly dissolving?" And constantly bringing it up is irritating to Cyclone fans...but they also have John Walter's on every Monday. And they'll also talk to Rob Gray occasionally. He's way better than some of the Hawkeye cronies he has that hate everything Iowa State. He's pretty fair. But at the end of the day his bread is buttered by Iowa athletics. And he is a Hawkeye fan.
It's narrow line to walk to have it both ways.

Maybe Shoultz should have given him credentials or maybe not. It seems like there's good enough reason either way. But Brommelkamp trying to threaten his way into getting them by saying he will "talk about it on the radio" is so stupid and exactly why I wouldn't give him credentials.

Only reason he wanted credentials is because iowa got beat and isn't there and he had the weekend off to watch them. He has no real interest in covering ISU. I listened yesterday as I do every Monday, to hear John Walters. TB sounded like a spoiled brat when he was talking about not getting a free ride to the Sweet 16. While most of the time he comes across as fair, you can hear the backhanded compliments and sarcastic tone on air. We don't need his type of coverage in this part of the state.

* Brommelkamp (KGYM in Cedar Rapids) asked for media credentials to cover the Cyclones in Chicago, after not being able to travel to cover either Iowa or Iowa State the first weekend

* Iowa State denied the request, citing a version of NCAA media rules that could be read as not allowing credential requests for the 2nd weekend if that outlet didn’t cover the 1st weekend

* Brommelkamp rightly responded with a copy of NCAA rules that expressly allows credentials in the way KGYM was requesting, it only needs approval from the school‘s athletic department

* ISU athletic department apparently holds firm in denying KGYM’s request - even though, as Brommelkamp points out, KGYM is part of the Cyclone Radio Network (even though, as I pointed out earlier, KGYM spends faaarrrr more time covering the Hawkeyes than the Cyclones, even airing Hawkeye football pre- and postgame shows despite not carrying actual Hawkeye games)

* And this whole spat gets played out in public on Twitter

Apparently this rule changed this year. In the past if you didn't cover the first and second rounds, media credentials were not allowed moving forward.

Two things can be true at the same time. Schoultz probably should have just given him the credential, because whatever. Unless we're literally out of them there is no reason not to unless you're behaving like a petty character from Mean Girls.

Brommelkamp is also a fake journalist who is retweeting the Barstool ISU twitter account and threatening to cry about it on the radio. It's absurd.

Todd very likely deserved the reaction he got from Matt. Wouldn’t argue that at all. Matt has to be better though. What’s the harm in giving him credentials? Would giving Todd credentials take them away from someone else that has been covering us? If so, tell him that and this nonsense doesn’t happen. By saying no with little explanation other than the NCAA won’t let you (which Todd contests) you play right into their hands by being the bad guy. Suddenly the talk on the radio over here in CR isn’t about the cyclones, but our petty Director of Communications that wouldn’t grant credentials.

Todd needs to be better too, but he knows his audience. The Hawk fans were looking for anything they could latch on to today, and Matt put this one on a tee for them. Todd may be extremely petty, but he’s not dumb.
If the sweet sixteen site was in say Salt Lake City or New York, would Todd be going? I think we know the answer...

My guess is that Iowa State had already filed their credential requests and just used the same list that they had from the first and second round as this is how it was always handled in the past.

That's why I said if we had them to give. If we don't have any, Brommelkamp is just a petulant child. It sounds like that wasn't the communication from ISU though, sounds like we said we couldn't due to a rules thing.

Compared to a coworker of his who was making comments like this during our game with Wisconsin

ISU said they couldn't because that has always been the rule by the NCAA. Apparently the rule has changed. Could Iowa State have handled it better? Yeah probably but honestly I kind of appreciate the "go f*ck yourself" approach to an eastern IA shill just looking for a free ride. Minus the ripping people off for thousands of dollars, this whole deal is giving me big Time Marty Tirrell vibes.

All ISU needed was drop a note and KGYM would have been fine for a press pass. The rules are not fixed, they are guidelines.

Mark Dukes(KGYM) is not good.
Todd Brommelkamp(KGYM) is better than Dukes.
Cole Bair(KCNZ) is better than both and I expect him to move to a bigger market soon.

Cole Bair is great and I really enjoy listening to his show on the drive home from work. Does a pretty fair job with covering UNI, ISU, and Iowa pretty evenly and then also is really good with the area high schools up here in the Cedar Valley

It's not ISU's responsibility to figure out who does or doesn't want a press pass.
