this game aside, I think many on here are underestimating Iowa. They WILL be better than people think. Fran can coach, they have a point guard that really came on last year, they have a swing man in Baasbe that improved a bunch last year too. Watch Baasbe play, he looks good doing what he is doing. I am actually very concerned about our game with them at Hilton.
Unfortunately, I agree. Fran is a good coach and it appears he's putting together something over there in IC. They have a few pieces already and it sounds like next year they will be adding quite a few more pieces. Iowa will be better than some people think.
If ISU had DG back this year, or a guy like Cartwright from Iowa, we'd be looking VERY good IMO. The PG position just scares me to death right now. Bubu Palo could just possibly be our best option at PG right now. Hopefully Chris Allen or Tyrus McGee can play it because Scotty is just NOT a PG at all. Scotty might be our best shooter on the team and I don't believe he got one single 3 pointer off in the first exhibition game because he was playing PG. Not what you want at all.
And I hope Hoiberg was playing it VERY conservative in the first exhibition because I watched the entire game and I think we got one fast break basket all game long on Royce White's dunk. We will need to get in transition a LOT more than that. It was a half court game all day long. That's not to our advantage IMO.
It sounded to me like Iowa last night was pressing a lot more, creating turnovers, and getting in transition a lot more than we were in our first exhibition game. That HAS to change IMO. We are deep now. We can afford to press more. Fred says we're going to be a run and gun type team. I hope to see more of that in the coming games. If we're running most of the time, the PG position won't be that critical, but if we're walking it up and getting into a half court set all the time, it will become critical. We need to hide the fact that we don't have a PG.
