Right now they're probably good enough to get to the 2nd round, maybe Sweet 16. Not a dominant team by any means. Not real strong guard play, and nothing to shout about down low. Maybe not 'average', but not that much above average, especially when thinking about what KU basketball historically does.

They're kind of like Michigan State this year--sure it's great to beat them, but does it mean much when they're not that great to begin with?
No

Defense is an issue...but the bigger issue is how we do not adjust when our 3 pointers are not falling.

You would think when you shoot nearly 20% from 3 for the game, you would try to work it into the inside more. You got the bash brothers in Mckay and Hogue down there that know how to score down low.

Bring in Niang and you have decent 2 point scorers. However, our team is blind to this for whatever reason.

Too much stat envy?

I think our game plan needs to be geared toward just enough threes to open up the middle, but a serious focus on twos. The problem is that every defense is going to pack it in until we prove they shouldn't.

I think we really panicked in the 1st half when they went on their huge run, hence all the quick 3-point shots. Not exactly how a championship-caliber team ideally responds.

2 problems I see right away. 1 - this is Fred's worst shooting team. And that includes his first year team. 2- Georges hasn't been Georges. He hasn't been bad per se, but he is not playing the way we need him to.

Average coaches stick (come hell or high water) to a system and try to force their personnel into that system.

Quality coaches--and I whole-heartedly believe CFH is one--figure out ways to creatively use the personnel they're given. It's frustrating to fans, who want instant gratification, but Coach Hoiberg is still trying to figure out the best way to use this group of Cyclones.

I'm not worried. There may be a few more head-scratchers this season, but I believe he'll have them hitting on all cylinders come March. And isn't that the goal?

I like Morris's quote that the players saw "Tech" across their jerseys and took them for granted. I think that goes double for the fans. I thought the turning point was when we cut it to 6 early in the second half and then had a brain fart and committed a bunch of silly fouls on defense and acted clueless on offense. It was going to be a long night when their shots were all falling and ours weren't, but I'm proud of the way we fought back in the second half with a chance to tie on the last shot. I believe they'll continue to get better and there's a lot of basketball to be played yet.

You like that quote? All it tells me is how mentally weak this team is.

It's just frustrating to hear the players say the same exact thing after every loss. Not that I'm going to be a drama queen and throw around words like unacceptable, it just pisses me off to hear them say the same thing over and over. Hopefully this time they will actually learn from it.

Talk about a week of highs and lows. This team is too inconsistent to win any titles and needs to change their attitude. On a side note, I remember Fred talking this summer/fall how he did not need to motivate this tea, wonder what changed?
BDJ=Chris Allen, both take plays off and lack offense.

That doesn't explain the whole rest of the game after Tech got up 19. Were they still taking them for granted then? They should think before they spout dumb cliches.

Its time for the team leaders who like to talk to the media all the time to " put up or shut up"

You mean the part where they came back from down 19 and were down by 3 with 10 seconds left and shooting an open three that would have tied the game?

Who cares.

There are no bad teams in the NCAA tourney and only remaining team to overlook is TCU. Hopefully that will keep their heads on straight.

All those early-in-the-shot-clock threes ... what are they thinking?

And our close-outs on defense are unspeakably bad, Naz in particular. In general, our guards can't stay in front of their guys and it just kills us on defense. The big guys have to help leaving them out of position to rebound and they don't rotate well at all.

You have to wonder what is being said in their huddles. "Hey guys, we're down by double digits. Let's keep doing the same dumb **** we've been doing all day!!"

Who knows if the team leaders like to talk to the media or not, they have to. That's part of the deal. They just don't show up for press avails because they want to.

You are talking about a TTU team that isn't that bad. They have been playing terribly in the Big 12 but they were way too good to lose them all. Having said that we will probably beat them by 40 in Hilton and if we were playing them again away we would destroy them as well. Bad day, get over it.

I'm not sure what you want them to say after the loss?

A better question is who the heck are the team leaders? If you had to name 1 guy or even 2 guys who are they? I'm not seeing any leadership at all.

It's frustrating to hear quotes like that from Monte. Yeah, us fans are super impressed with all of the comebacks this team has had, but why not come out with that mentality and just destroy them? Waiting until a trash team like Tech gets up by 19 before we do anything about it is pathetic.
