Wish Fred would play Edozie a little bit. I liked the press, but these guys aren't conditioned to do it for more than a couple minutes here or there. Maybe an aggressive half-court press would serve the purpose of speeding things up. Also, some Floydisms on defense like randomly playing a box and one from time to time could help things a bit.

Honestly though, we all know today they just didn't show up. It's not like they need to play a different defense or run different plays to beat a team with inferior talent like Tech.

....dunno...let me know when ISU plays two decent games in a row. I'm not sure if that's happened this year. They keep having these 'we needed a wake up call' games, to be followed by a decent game, to be followed by another 'wake up call' game, etc.

They've had some decent bragging rights with other individual teams, but MAYBE all the trash talking to other benches/fanbases/teams/refs would hold some merit if they just went out and played like they didn't care what anyone else thought so they could just focus on basketball.

Instead, a lot of the extracurricular stuff looks kind of stupid, especially when it's against other teams that haven't done much, or lose to teams like Purdue...know what I mean?

See, that's the thing. There's nowhere to run and hide from this. There are NO excuses. They didn't show up to actually "play" until there were only six minutes to play. Hustle, effort, intensity all stepped up, but it was too late then. Geez, look at Hogue those last six minutes; he was a beast!

TT is a bad team. Had the Cyclones played the whole game with the intensity of the last six minutes, we aren't having this discussion. It's inexcusable. Bring it every time, every possession.

It doesn't have to be either/or. Players can improve their defense skills. Why isn't that happening, especially when the coach says that improved defense is something that needs to happen?

For KU maybe it doesn't, but most teams have to give up something in recruiting.

Many of them have improved. Some will just always be outmatched, which can make the entire team look bad as they try to cover. You can stomp your feet all you want, but some guys just will not be good defenders.

I do think the conference has figured a few things out about how to combat our offense by exposing the weak links in our defense. Our guards get essentially no help from our forwards, and are stressed by having to always double the post.

Kansas and KState, just this past week. Neither game was flawless but two solid wins over teams that would certainly take you behind the woodshed

In pretty much every off-season interview that I heard from Hoiberg, he mentioned that ISU needed to get better at defense in order to move beyond where the team was. Halfway through the season, the players don't seem to care much about defense. There seems to be a significant disconnect here...

All you have to do is go listen to Georges interview on Gameday when he was asked to describe what Hoiball is, he said as a joke that defense is optional, but I think the players really feel that way.

...been an ISU fan for a life time. That doesn't mean I have to wear ISU-colored glasses to watch a game.

It's funny how when a realistic perspective is put up, the response is 'hawk troll'. Should I blame the refs? The basketball? The heat?

Look through ISU's post-loss articles, read the players' comments, see the following games' results, then see how things go a game or two from there.

The article on CF about tonight's game isn't much different.

It's a trend, and a tad interesting. Taunting Iowa's fans looked cool though. Great gifs all around!

That's on Fred.

In every season he's been here, our rotational and help side defense has been atrocious. While our man to man defense has been good at times this year, it completely falls apart once the first man is beat. There are times we senselessly double team the perimeter only to have the ball passed to the vacated opponent. This sets off a domino effect of horrendous rotations that usually leaves a man wide open.

It's one thing to have a bad game defensively in which individuals don't guard, but this team consistently lacks communication and a semblance of what to do once a man gets beat. We don't even look like we practice these things, honestly.

...who have KU and KSU taken behind the woodshed?

I think the Big 12 has lots of competitive teams, but I'm not sure why people all of the sudden think these teams are good.

If you need to find out, put Kansas against someone like Kentucky again and you probably see a similar result.

Every one of your posts tonight references Iowa or the B1G or taunting Iowa so it's really hard to tell.

Yep. This is probably a top-20-25ish team that can put a run on/have a chance to beat quite a few teams out there.

I'm curious to see where things go or if this 'players only' meeting has much positive impact.

We have quite a bit to work on. Most teams do, even ones significantly more talented than us.

Also like most teams, it takes losing (more than just three games, gasp!) for a bunch of talented 18-23 year-olds to learn.

We have some faults that are not correctable, but the staff will get these guys to not be so dependent on out-shooting the opponent.

When you shoot as poorly as we did today, you are going to have a decent chance at losing even if you play well in most every other aspect.

That lack of consistency is what is holding this team back. I feel like there's a player on the team that maybe is an issue. I'm not going to venture a guess because that's not fair, but that's kind of the way it feels.

Eh, that's just his personality. He likes to joke around, and he knows the reputation they have of being an offensive team. I think it's just more the players we have, outside of Jameel, just aren't that good of defenders. When we had Babb, he played great defense every night and still played "Hoiball"
