Hoiberg said he was dismayed that ISU players didn't seem bothered by the fact Tech was getting and making good looks.{/quote)

In pretty much every off-season interview that I heard from Hoiberg, he mentioned that ISU needed to get better at defense in order to move beyond where the team was. Halfway through the season, the players don't seem to care much about defense. There seems to be a significant disconnect here...

The disconnect is that our best defenders are far from our best on offense. It is a tough balance.

And Thomas, McKay, Long, Georges, Morris, Hogue, and Nader.

...any way it could be for all of the ISU fans that mocked Iowa for their...'derpth'?

Just saying---there was an awful lot of excitement around here from people before anything actually happened. And so far, not much has happened aside from some showboating against a marginal Iowa team and beating a kind of average KU team in Ames.

When we crack top ten it seems like we always drop a game we should win. It happened once last year, it has already happened twice this year. I don't understand it..

...because they're not consistent enough to be Top Ten. So far ISU has been ranked high because of other teams losing.

Let's see ISU play decent two-three games in a row before they start actually thinking they're Top Ten material.

It doesn't have to be either/or. Players can improve their defense skills. Why isn't that happening, especially when the coach says that improved defense is something that needs to happen?

A kind of average KU team that still will probably win the conference. Excitement may have been too high, but this team has shown some brilliance.

Sounds like someone is getting some serious changes to their minutes.

Trending up.....Jameel mckay
trending down....BDJ

his effort today was glaring and embarrassing. Our energy and leadership seems to go up when McKay enters.

Kansas defense improves throughout the season....We just never play it. Defense wins championships. Offense is fun to watch

Agree with the last statement. I don't care what anyone says--KU's not that great, and them winning the conference says more about the hype of the Big 12 more than anything. They still get worked by Kentucky if they played today.

There's a high level of deflection of things like my last statement from posters on here, but the reality is that any team with a pulse that plays some actual defense could do just fine against most teams from the Big 12. The proof was in Lubbock today.

If West Virginia gets as much credit as they get, I'd hope people would recognize South Carolina as a Big 12 title contender too.

ISU's very capable, but until they start playing as smart with the basketball as say...Texas Tech, they're just another decent team. Tubby Smith had his team ready to play some ball today, and they closed out. Was impressive.

Saying Kansas is 'average' is just dumb. They're still a top 10 team. The only difference from this Kansas team compared to others is they don't have a rim protector

*BINGO* Unfortunately, "Hoiball" is really fun to watch, but it's sort of like Johnny Orr Ver.2.0; better on defense but just not enough when shots aren't falling. Love CFH, but this is reality we find ourselves in.

We may not have bragging rights over TT tonight, but apparently someone is still our *****.

Time to switch up the defense. I think we can all agree that our defense sucks. Why can't we play a zone or press the whole game?

Right now they're probably good enough to get to the 2nd round, maybe Sweet 16. Not a dominant team by any means. Not real strong guard play, and nothing to shout about down low. Maybe not 'average', but not that much above average, especially when thinking about what KU basketball historically does.

They're kind of like Michigan State this year--sure it's great to beat them, but does it mean much when they're not that great to begin with?

Frank Mason has been one of the best guards in the conference. Selden is decent, and Graham has a 3/1 assist to TO ratio. Their guard play has been good
