Insanity!!!

My 2 roommates & I started insanity on june 12th. We failed to read that you're supposed to be in at least decent shape when you start the program. One of them quit on day 4, but me & the other one are still going strong!

I agree that any of these workouts are only as hard as you make them. if you just half *** them, you're not going to get the results you want. I'm determined to eventually be able to do these without extra rest breaks in between, but it makes me feel better when most of the people in the videos have to rest too!

I can understand why this would upset some people, but I guess it just doesn't get to me. These instructors live this lifestyle every single day. They didn't get to be physical specimens and instructors because they slacked off during their own training time. Their purpose in this video isn't to train themselves, it's to instruct and train others.

As far as myself hitting the pause button, the only time I really do that anymore is during chest and back, chest, shoulders, and triceps, core synergystics, and ab ripper x. In other words, push ups and core exercises force me to take breaks. I don't think there's a single exercise in the program that destroys my stamina more than the push up, and I'm having to take 15-20 second breaks after push ups just to catch my breath and get my head right. As far as core, I have no ab muscles whatsoever, so by the time I have finished an ab exercise I have a lot of burning and stabbing. It is my goal to eventually do all videos without pausing, and I know I'll get there eventually with abs, but I push myself so hard with the push ups trying to do more and more of them each week that I may never eliminate that break. It is encouraging, however, that Tony tells you to hit the pause button if you need to.

How long are the Insanity workouts? I'd like to do it, but my time is limited to about 30min-1hr each night after kids go to bed.

No I know what your saying... I guess It dosent **** me off as much as makes me laugh, that he is taking the break... I belive it is harder to talk and do the excersise. then to just do them, so the break is needed. Also need to remember to never compromise form!!

I struggle with the pushups too. I usually can complete the first set or 2 with complete good form. But by the end of round 1 and all of round 2 I can barely hold my body off the ground and certainly compromise form if I try to.

I think the next best thing is to go to knee pushups, but I dont get nearly the same burn and have to pump out about 20-30 knee versions before I feel like I get the same workout. I am going to try to modify with a chair as I heard that is supposed to help, never tried it before. Dont even get me started on pullups. The whole chest and back workout just drains me out.

Chest and back & plyo (my monday and tuesday) are the hardest for me. I feel like if I can make it through those, the rest of the week is downhill...sort of.

It's funny - depending which phase I'm in, I swear that either chest and back or chest, shoulders, and triceps is my least favorite workout. Currently I'm finishing my (third) phase 2, so chest, shoulders, and triceps currently is my least favorite.

With chest and back, it's more standard push ups, but it's the sheer quantity that gets to me. If I can remember off the top of my head, for me it's 30 regular push ups, 18 military push ups, 20 wide push ups, 16 decline push ups, 16 diamond push ups, and 12 dive bombers - and I'm able to "match" between set one and two.

With chest, shoulders, and triceps, it's not so much the quantity but the type of push ups. I particularly hate the slow push ups and almost always burn myself out on them. I usually like doing the wide-fly push ups and side-to-side push ups, but I've usually burned myself out on the slow ones.

I did mention core synergystics, but in truth the only real "hard" push up in this workout is the prison cell push up - and it's not the push up itself that's difficult about it, but the cardio nature of it between the standing up, the bending over and stepping back, jumping back up and standing back up, wash, rinse, repeat.

I'm actually one of those nuts that doesn't mind plyo that much. For whatever reason it's just one of those workouts where I am able to empty out my mind and just push through the pain. What's actually kind of funny is I can tell how far into the workout I am by what kind of pain I'm fighting. The first two rounds I'm fighting my right knee locking up (which is why I don't go too terribly deep on my squats or lunges). The next two rounds I'm fighting a stitch in my right side that usually shifts to my right trapezius - it's usually a result of me not breathing properly, so these rounds I particularly focus on breathing, especially since they are the most physically intense of the 6 rounds. The last two rounds I'm usually fighting fatigue, so it's a matter of willpower and pride in wanting to finish strong.

Maybe try push up bars. I was able to add reps when I switched from doing push ups on the ground to using the bars. I am not really sure why, but one of my issues at first was that my triceps simply couldn't take it. They would be more blown up than my chest going into the second round of Chest & Back. The bars seem to help out with this....or maybe it's just a mental thing.

Bars/dumbells basically alleviate the wrists from stress and allow you to go deeper into the push up. It might help use the chest more because of the position of the hands, but I'm not sure.

Insanity is basically like 6 days of plyo x. The last 4 weeks of insanity are like nothing else I've ever experienced. I love in the video when Shawn is like ' that **** is bananas yo! '.

Imo, Shawn > Tony. Just my preference.

Agreed, it's a preference thing. I like Shaun T. as well. Both workouts have their annoying ppl in them though: Drea in p90x and that Tanya chick on the Insanity vids.

Shaun T. is seconds away from a reach around at any moment, it puts me off my game.

I might give that a shot. Sounds like the same thing that is happening to me. My triceps give out way before my chest where I get to a point I cant even hold my body off the ground without having my arms give out.

I am only on week 2, so I imagine it will get better over time, its likely a stamina and conditioning problem as much as it is a strength problem. I have used some barbells for stands and it certainly takes some pressure off my wrists.

If you have some 20-35 pound dumbbells around in your basement, you'll get nearly the same height difference as push-up bars. I think you had some the last time I looked around down there.

I agree that the Tanya chick is annoying, but that doesn't mean I don't find myself hoping for a wardrobe malfunction during every workout
