Ideas For Teambuilding Activity In DSM Area

Team building is dumb and worthless…. have no idea why companies waste their time and money on them.
Somebody doesn't like free food and drinks...
listen, I don't like people or spending time with them as much as anybody, but jeezus, lighten up. Take a mgmt class to find out why they work for most.

Sounds like somebody failed a few trust falls.

I’ve actually never participated in one…. just witnessed with my own eyes from employees in our office that have…. they hate one another just as much as ever.

Ah yes, so your one whole example is representative of the population. That makes sense.

My work is holding a regional meeting in Des Moines in a few weeks. We have a few employees that work locally, but almost everyone is coming from out of town. We will have a group of about 20-30 people. We are staying near the airport.

I've been charged with finding a good social/team building event in the evening. Does anyone have good recommendations?

For reference: we did TopGolf in KC and axe throwing in Houston last year.

I appreciate the help!

Archery Field & Sports, Altoona
They have both archery and paintball and host large groups

You could come up with a self guided culinary or downtown brewery/bar tour.

Well, yes, it would be implied that a core facet of teambuilding would be working with decent people and being able to actually have fun.

Tossing out a few other ideas (just not sure where to direct you):

The Big Yellow Bike: https://www.thebigyellowbike.com

Chopped-style cocktail competition (learn to make cocktails)

Brewery tour

Contact one a local charity or community organization and see if they have a project you can work on together to help the community. Are they aware of an elderly or low income person that needs a handicap ramp built? House painted? Other projects they need help with? Benches for a community park? My guess is not everyone in the company always works with each other - or they have different roles.

Create a "survival" game

Poker tournament

Wine/beer tasting

Rent a location with outdoor space - a large barn, wedding type venue, a large cabin. Have the event there.

Having done and led some team building exercises, your facilitator is pretty key in this process.
If they can't pick up on the cues and help the group deal with them, they are not good at what they do.
That being said, it usually takes more than just a couple of hours to work out issues.
