Idea for gamedays

I think we should build a giant tornado and blast a vortex of CO2 out of it after every score. (along with a loud siren over the loud speakers)

We are supposedly one of the best engineering schools in the country. We should be able to build it.
It's my understanding that ISU has a (small) tornado generator.

Is it too much to ask for a tornado siren to be played every time we score a TD? What do you think? I like the idea.

I am usually against gimmicks that play up on your namesake. Taken to the extreme you end up with a pirate ship in your endzone...not that cool. But the siren is one "cyclone" idea I have always been behind. Mostly because those sirens are loud and scary as hell and if an ACTUAL storm siren went off at full volume and not an electronic wannabe it would rock the stadium BIG TIME!

I think they should just build one of those civil defense sirens right on top of the press box. Paint it cardinal and gold and fire it up before every game. It would be authentic, look cool, and would sound awesome.

Too bad Ames has to be Buzz Killington

Funny thing about this is that last fall I noticed one of these just northeast of the stadium near the parking lot and that is EXACTLY what I thought they were going to do. Anyone else seen this?

I have thought about this too. I kinda like the idea. Or we could do a variation for after TD's. We could hold one arm straight up in the air and circle it around like a tornado (kinda similar to "wave the wheat" for KU)

I don't think it matters how "fruity" something seems. If everyone does it it's cool. And if other teams make fun of it, they are just jealous.

Ok so the question is can we get this gesture/hand movement to catch on? I think in order for it to work we need the student body to start it, it may catch on after they start it. I'm not a student anymore so one of you students on here needs to spread the word!

I get the feeling there will be too many scoreboard screen shots of a different finger other then the index finger being used in that hand movement, ESPECIALLY panning over the student section.

Just what I thought, the students have to start it for it to catch on.

And cat mentioned it being "fruity", but if you get enough people twirling their fingers like a Cyclone it'd look good, I mean Baylor does this:

I personally think we should get the ball rolling. I totally agree, if the entire fanbase is doing the twirly finger motion after scores it would be pretty sweet.

I just had a thought......wouldn't the twirling of the finger gesture be eerily similar to the "big deal" gesture? (you know, the one that usually accompanies the phrase "whoopity doo")

I would vote for the whole arm doing it in order to differentiate.

Either way, we should totally be doing something along these lines.

How about arm above the elbow? This makes it seem more like we mean to do it and less like we are a bunch of crazies trying to flop about by moving our arms. To see an example of what I propose, look at the band before the chorus of zombie nation at a game sometime.

Also, I want everyone's opinion....I'm sure you have all seen other school's (especially in the big twelve) hand signals they use for their teams. Such as the Hook em Horns sign, or oklahoma state and Texas Tech's guns etc...
Don't hold back..I can take any bad thoughts on it as well.
I think in today's politically correct culture -- it would get squashed as you've described it. Some other ideas -- the whole arm for instance -- could work but may be too difficult to get it to catch on.

I like the idea of a jump spin with one arm held up in the air. But I can just see the injuries now from the student section . . .

I'm all for the twisting arm above the elbow idea. Cyclone Aerobics already looks good, imagine the entire stadium doing the same sort of thing with their arms.

Now we need some an organization to start it up for us.

Maybe a Cyclone Alley Committee member could get the ball rolling for basketball games, then hopefully it could carry over into football? Then we could get Jeff Johnson to help us out during pregame? Any other ideas?

(No, this is not an attempt to start a discussion on whether or not people like him doing pregame.)

Yes, the forearm cyclone motion is what we should do. This way it doesn't look like a flailing arm (which everybody does after a score). It will look as if we are intentionally doing it, which we are. Great job guys, now we just need to implement it during games.

I think since we are obviously amidst basketball season it should start in cyclone alley. Someone needs to get this thing jumpstarted, and as I said earlier, I think it should be either the students or an authoritative figure such as the afformentioned Jeff Johnson. (I will say, though, if Jeff Johnson starts it I'm afraid we may see a backlash from it and people won't want to do it).

Is anybody in here someone that could see themselves spreading the word about this?

Another option is to also get the band to start doing the Cyclone Arm. Being a former pep band member, I know if you can get the student directors on board, they will lead the rest of the band in it. Seeing this in action will help motivate Cyclone Alley.
Any posters here that are current band members? I am not sure anyone I know is still in band (dang I feel old now).

What would be the best time to coordinate this new move?

The band's been using the forearm cyclone for all four of the years I've been in it and it hasn't caught on yet, so it may take a little additional help

Then we probably should try to coordinate with our old buddy Jeff Johnson.
Jeff Johnson helped spread Cyclone Aerobics from the band to the general population, so I think, if we figure out the best time to do it all together, that we could get him to teach it to the masses.
