Idea for gamedays

I think siren sounds cool. If im remembering right oregon has like one that goes off. Or is that a ducks quack ? I cannot ever tell?

So does anybody know how to get this issue brought back up with the city?... I think it's worth another shot at least... maybe somehow there could be a petition that people could sign even... probably not, but just a thought

To me the tornado siren is a no-brainer. Have it before the opening kickoff, and after every touchdown. Simple. The City of Ames should lighten up, im sure the people of Ames would support this, and isnt that who should have the voice? The people, not the select people?? Just my opinion, I live in DSM so what do I know..

I wanna the people who don't want a siren for gameday to stand up, it seems like everyone I hear says they want it, but it seems like a small minority is again' it. Come on city of Ames. Embrace your Cyclones!

I think having the tornado siren before the team runs out on the field would be so sweet

If they can't use a real siren they should at least use the speakers in the stadium. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

I'm guessing there might be legal issues with this. Imitating an emergency service isn't the government's favorite thing to allow.

Yes, I know there's not much around the stadium, but they're the city. :dull:

play this... gets me pumped everytime especially would with a sweet video on the board and the team getting ready to come out!

There are a bunch of people who get their RV's to the stadium the night before. I think it would be cool to sing the fight song or something at midnight and then everybody shotguns a beer.

Didn't the "dance thing" get borrowed from the band? That was my understanding. I've noticed that Iowa State does not embrace it's band as much as some other schools. From what I have heard the band has a few good cheers that I would love to see the student section participate in.

Instead of a siren, someone should take the time to try and make a very high quality and recognizable tornado sound. Start with a whisper of wind quickly building to the high-pitched whistling of high winds, then bring in the massive bass rumble as the power of a tornado rips the very earth.

Eat that Chuck Norris.

or has Bo replace Chuck?

and what would a tornado do to an ultralight on a treadmill?

I agree with all of you on the siren. Seems so obvious that this should somehow be done but, again, we all know the city of Ames won't let us. There's got to be some alternative that is similar. Should definitely be used prior to kickoff and after TD's and even field goals.

Also, I want everyone's opinion....I'm sure you have all seen other school's (especially in the big twelve) hand signals they use for their teams. Such as the Hook em Horns sign, or oklahoma state and Texas Tech's guns etc...
Well I've thought of one we could do which may sound somewhat fruity or may catch on. My idea is to use your pointer finger up and swirl it around like a cyclone. Very simple...tell me what you think and also if you think it could catch on and if we could implement it ASAP.

Don't hold back..I can take any bad thoughts on it as well.

I really see no reason why we couldn't work through this and get some sort of agreement between the AD and the city. As others have mentioned, there are a lot of school around the country that do this after touchdowns.

I think the only way to do it is to play a siren similar to a tornado siren on the stadium PA system. Anybody dreaming of firing up the actual sirens around town, no chance, that really is a public safety problem. But with a siren over the PA, there should be little chance of people mistaking it for the real deal. Most of the town shouldn't even hear it (see complaints about our crappy PA system). And for those that do, how many people rely totally on the sirens for that stuff? A quick check of the radio, tv, internet, or looking out the window should quickly clarify that there isn't a tornado for the few dozen homes close enough to the stadium to make the mistake in the first place.

Plus, if it becomes common knowledge that this sound is played at the stadium during the game, people aren't going to be caught off guard by it. I know where I live they test the sirens the first saturday of every month, and believe it or not, people don't go running for cover in a pannic because they know it is a regular test. I think the gameday thing could be much the same. People aren't stupid, they can figure out if it is real sirens and the weather looks bad, or it is a PA siren and it is sunny out..... but just don't try to tell that to the city of Ames.

I think we should build a giant tornado and blast a vortex of CO2 out of it after every score. (along with a loud siren over the loud speakers)

We are supposedly one of the best engineering schools in the country. We should be able to build it.

I have thought about this too. I kinda like the idea. Or we could do a variation for after TD's. We could hold one arm straight up in the air and circle it around like a tornado (kinda similar to "wave the wheat" for KU)

I don't think it matters how "fruity" something seems. If everyone does it it's cool. And if other teams make fun of it, they are just jealous.
