IMO they've just done an extremely poor job of handling the media responses. Need to have a single spokesperson to maintain consistency and accuracy. Here, far too many people talking, narrative is out of control and makes them look bumbling, certainly inconsistent, and unnecessarily worries the public and families.

Idk If this particular Elantra is the same car but whoever was in that Elantra has to be the killer right? I think they would of come forward by now if they were innocent
Something with that car will lead them to a name. I'm hoping they close in quickly now.
Does the town not have any surveillance? I'm suprised almost week and half later after they had discovered the Elantra they haven't been able to find any other surveillance in the area to give better picture of car
I think they have a lot of surveillance (store fronts anyway), they just aren't sharing most of it. And they aren't getting much out of it. Probably not a ton of surveillance in the neighborhood though. At least at the time. Now I'm sure every property has had it installed.

If this is one of those situations where if they know who did it and are just denying and building the case that will survive a jury of idiots.....I would not be pleased if I was an Idahoan. The Mollie Tibbets case was a similar roller coaster that affected a lot of people here and took a month to get to the Truth. This is messed up.
A party house with DNA present from countless individuals, including friends, friends of friends, and random people is going to take more than a little time to collect and analyze. Killer seems almost certainly to be someone within their circle, probably very close, whose DNA being present would have plausible, innocent explanations. Need as much evidence as is remotely possible to obtain. And if they do have a strong feeling, developing case for an individual who they're watching to ensure they don't take off, there's no reason to rush, it's real life not a cops drama that needs to be wrapped up in an hour. Personally, if it were my family member or friend I'd want a conviction after careful and thorough preparation, not haste to satisfy the amature sleuths and media, that might end up in a hung jury at best. The trial will be extremely expensive, retrials after hung juries are more difficult, finding of innocence means that person goes free even if most might think the jury got it wrong.

I was pretty bummed when that car in Oregon didn't pan out.
