This is the rate of violent crimes which I agree have generally decreased over time, not the specific category of mass murders which are increasing.

in closing.... violent crimes used to be more prevalent. you just didn't hear/see it as much.

now with everyone having a camera/ 24 hour news. many people think its more prevalent.

Ok. Yes. Mass shootings have increased. However (and please don't think I condone any types of gun crimes), if we're truly concerned about gun deaths, deaths resulting in mass shooting is a very small fraction of the total deaths by guns. And even more concerning is how many suicides vs murders.

If I may offer my personal perspective on guns. I don't own a gun. I don't want to own a gun. BUT, I like the idea of the freedom of having that choice should I feel the need in the future to do so.

So to you, no difference in how they die (one by one or 30 at a pop), just add ‘‘em up and if going down, success. Even if now, malls, concerts, and schools are less safe. Ok.

More mass shootings for sure. There have always been lunatics doing stuff like what happened in Idaho. The small town setting and the fact they were white college kids makes it a sensational story though.

Feels like this thread is going to the cave soon. But let's keep in mind, the mass murder from the OP we are discussing - was done by knife, not gun.

So I for one would appreciate keeping this thread on the event, and not delve into the guns good / guns bad debate. Plenty of space for that in the cave. Thanks.

I do wonder how much more is here then in other places and the other countries just don’t get the publicity that it would get in the US. You know China or Russia would squelch it and keep anything like that out of the media.

Possibly. I mean things like this have happened in almost every decade in modern times though. Some of the most famous serial killers were from the 70s and 80s.

So, this dog that was skinned a few weeks before in that area. Apparently the dog was also filleted and the meat was neatly placed next to the dog. Sounds like a big sharp knife. The old folks let their dog out and it never came back. The old couple also found a mutilated rabbit (scalped with ears removed) near their property before the dog incident.


Serial killer?

Could be some cult ritual. I've heard of crazy stuff like that.

I agree 100%. From visiting the Philippines, I can tell you that violent crimes do not happen often. The people there are extremely friendly. I can't say as far as other countries though.

I interned in Cape Town and there are more murders there in a day than most places in the world.

Violent crime overall is actually near some of the lowest levels in decades

I flew to Paris and the taxi took me straight to the hotel and then to EuroDisney and back to the hotel and then back to the airport. I bought an eiffel tower t-shirt at the airport gift shop. All French people are nice and there is no crime or meanness.

Seems like a lot of angry 18-25 year olds. At that age, my biggest concern was where I was going out that night.
