They have them in stock about 15 minutes from work (i'm in omaha), but they don't open till 10 am. I'm gonna take a real early lunch at 9:45 and pray I can get one. Doubtful, but we will see.

Hilarious

I just checked the Best Buy stock checker; hoping for a store nearby and they had some !!!!

In Iowa City.

Is it worth descending into the depths of hell in the hopes of getting one. Hmmmm. Nope.

Just thought I would point that out in case anyone here has more tolerance than I.

Yeah, at that point you have to start considering just stepping up to an android tablet.

Or, just wait and see what Amazon does. Word is they may be dropping a very low cost tablet option in the next month or two.

$99 tablets: Price is right - NYPOST.com

At $160 or $210 with plans to root the device and put android on it, it is still a steal. I am sure around thanksgiving christmas there will be some value options out there. And they will be in the $100-$200 range, but they won't have the hardware specs that the touchpad has. I read in a post somewhere ( it might of even been in this thread) that the components to build the 32 GB touchpad was just over $300.

There already are low-cost tablet options (Androids, even), but they are all crap, all of them. You really have to analyze the specs on these things; the phrase "you get what you pay for" is true (except in the case of closeouts like the Touchpad). These low-cost tablets have low-resolution displays (800x480 or 800x600 are very common), resistive touchscreens (tech-speak for "crap"), etc.

$318 for the 32GB and $306 for the 16GB model:
