Hp Touchpad Firesale

There already are low-cost tablet options (Androids, even), but they are all crap, all of them. You really have to analyze the specs on these things; the phrase "you get what you pay for" is true (except in the case of closeouts like the Touchpad). These low-cost tablets have low-resolution displays (800x480 or 800x600 are very common), resistive touchscreens (tech-speak for "crap"), etc.

Doesnt mean Amazon's will be. Amazon can afford to sell its tablets at a loss if need be, knowing, unlike a lot of other hardware-only players, they'll make it up in other areas (music, video, movies).

Apple's ipad parts were estimated at about $300 worth about the time it came out. If amazon sold something similarly specced (adjusted for 6 mos newer tech), and sold it at cost even, theyd have a high specs option that undercut everything out there. Sell at a loss and you've got a potential game changer.

Have any of you that got a confirmation from HP SMB received any new info? Mine had its' ship date scheduled for today, but of course I haven't heard anything new and don't have tracking on the package yet. I plan on calling them in the morning, but just thought I would check...

Nothing new here either, just the email confirmation - but I'm shocked I even got one of those since they sent me a cancellation for that order several hours before. I'm still not convinced I actually will get one

Now that it looks official that Android can be ported to one of these, I really want one. If this doesn't work out, I hope hp.com comes through when they get their next batch. But, I am sure that will be an absolute cluster as well...

Don't worry, it will be a couple months before there is a completely operational and stable version of Android available for the Touchpad. Heck, I'll probably wait a couple months after it is released to confirm it is stable. Don't want to brick it and be without the new toy.

Did Best Buy in Ames ever have these in stock?

I don't know about the Best Buy, but I know Walmart sold out of them by 4AM on Saturday morning. They said they sold out after walmart.com changed the price. Apparently the walmart on Duff price matches their online store. I figure a college town probably sells out faster then most.

Called HP SMB this morning to see if the order was shipping, as I was told it would last week. They told me no, and I wouldn't be getting one. I asked about the charge on my credit card and he told me to talk to billing but the wait is 3 hours. Lovely. They have no clue what is going on. Glad I picked one up at Best Buy.

Yeah I had a bad feeling about that. Looks like I'm SOL until HP restocks and I get real lucky.

Just heard it will be several weeks before the TouchPads are available in limited quantities on hp.com

Looks like that press release bombed HP's forum so here's the main info for those interested:

More TouchPads on the Way by Mark_Budgell yesterday - last edited 2 minutes ago
I finally have some solid news to share about TouchPad availability.

Before I share, let me first say thank you for enthusiasm for this product. Since we announced the price drop, the number of inquiries about the product and the speed at which it disappeared from inventory has been stunning. I think it’s safe to say we were pleasantly surprised by the response.

Despite announcing an end to manufacturing webOS hardware, we have decided to produce one last run of TouchPads to meet unfulfilled demand. We don’t know exactly when these units will be available or how many we’ll get, and we can’t promise we’ll have enough for everyone. We do know that it will be at least a few weeks before you can purchase. See more information in the updated FAQs below.

Bryna (@BrynaatHP) and I (@MarkatHP) will update you here and on Twitter on the status of the new batch of systems. Please continue to share your thoughts and questions with us. Although we can’t respond to every one directly, we are sharing your feedback with teams inside HP.

Please note that many of the questions below address concern about orders previously placed on our HP Home & Home Office and HP Small & Medium Business online stores. It’s important to note that these are separate stores with slightly different procedures. We also know that we’re sparse on information about availability outside the US. We will share updates on regional availability as the information comes in.

I think what they have done is allocated whatever stock they have left to the customers who had ordered through their own website up to the cutoff they had announced, that depleted nearly all stock, so they've decided to crank out a few more before their 4th fiscal quarter ends (oct 8) so that all of their losses will be in this quarter and they can start fresh. Trying to save face.

Talked to a SMB HP rep today, if your order was placed by 4am on that following Monday then your order will be filled. It will take about 2 to 8 weeks as everything is on back order.

2-8 weeks is an eternity. I figure, conservatively I check my status through hp 6 times a day, so 6 times daily * 7 days a week, * 8 weeks, thats checking the site 336 times, I'd go nuts
