How far can Iowa go?

So Iowa's average SoS over the last 10 years has been inside the top-40?
Yep, Iowa strength of schedule is top 40. Iowa State is top 15.
Sagarin is not great for final team rank but since I was in his data for SOS.

Iowa has finished top 25 once with a top 25 SOS (2017). This was their only top 25 SOS and they still finished #18 in rank. They have finished in Sagarin top 25 rank 6 out of 10 years.
Iowa State has finished top 25 twice with a top 25 SOS (2020, 2017). Since their SOS is almost always top 25, anytime they finish ranked in top 25 it is with a SOS in top 25.

I freely admit Iowa has had better teams most years. Even out the SOS and there is probably about a 1 win per season difference in Iowa favor. With the SOS difference it is about 2.5.

I'm just kind of gobsmacked that, after being under the impression that Iowa's SoS is pure garbage on an annual basis, it's actually been in the top 1/3 of college football for the past decade and they've averaged 9 wins a season against that SoS over the past 5 non-Covid years. Seriously wasn't expecting that.

College gameday thought it was a big game
Had the largest TV audience for a Cy-Hawk game ever
Des Moines Register called it the most anticipated Cy-Hawk game ever

So yeah, was a huge win at the time.
Of course now we're being told it wasn't impressive.
Same with Indiana
Same with Tua and the Terrapins (Taluia thanks Twins)
Within 3 weeks we'll be hearing that Penn State isn't any good too, I guarantee it

I said Penn State wasn't good 3 weeks ago so I guess I'm ahead of the curve there. Their win in Madison...was a football game.

I remember going to a non-conference team's boards following some of ISU's bigger conference wins over the last few years oh wait nope didn't do that.

Iowa has the #10 strength of schedule at this point in the season. When all is said and done, Iowa and Iowa State will end up with very similar SOS, as they typically do.
What a joke, what team is going to help EIU's SOS the rest of the regular season since everyone in the West will not be playing other teams from the east? In other words, the western teams are at their peak right now, and will continue to fall from this point going forward.

At the end of the season EIU's SOS will get a boast because of the conference championship game and their bowl game, but during the regular season its a joke. Playing in the pillow fight Big 10 West and then missing the better teams in the East year after year will do that to a team.

Yeah they are hot garbage. Right after we beat them. Before that they weren't, but now they are. /shrug
Lmao, who have they beat? Their win over WVU looks like they beat the 9th best team in the Big 12. They almost lost to Illinois and Ohio State hung 66 on them.

Yes, if you include every team. If you just use P5, there are only 68 teams so Iowa SOS is in lower half. They have averaged 7.7 wins over last 10 years. Iowa State 5.5 wins.

So his rankings are garbage, but his SOS which is based on his rankings is spot on? LOL man. 2.5 wins per year difference because of SOS. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Lol. Did you count Iowa's 6 wins from 2020 in coming to that 7.7 average wins number?

Using Sagarin for strength of schedule purposes but saying it is “not great for final team rank” may actually be the dumbest thing I have read on this website. And that is saying a lot, because the Iowa State fans on here say A LOT of really dumb things.

Cincy will not get into the playoff over a one loss P5 conference champ, nor should they. It’s ridiculous to suggest otherwise.

Although I completely understand why so many here want that to happen.

Yep, didn't even think about that, just dumped the data in a spreadsheet. OK, swapping out 2010 (8-5) instead of 2020 (6-2) gets Iowa to 8.0 wins per season. Much better than 7.7

Iowa is a consistent 7-9 win team with occasional clunker and occasional 10+ wins. You should expect 8-5 every season.
Iowa State (was) a consistent 5-7 win team with too frequent 3 win seasons and occasional 8+ win seasons.

As stated in another post, If you swap the schedule SOS, Iowa instead of 8-5 probably averages 7-6.
Iowa State instead of 5.5-7.5 probably averages 6.5-6.5.
Iowa has been the slightly better team but not the juggernaut that their fans put them out to be.

That would be awesome if you were in the MAC.
