How far can Iowa go?

Well we already played the number 18, and 4. Did you expect whole home slate to be top 20?

No kidding, Iowa has already done the heavy lifting. A perfect record vs a Top 10 schedule, Iowa was the only team that accomplished that. It had to get easier at some point. Just like ISU's schedule was front loaded with cupcakes, but will get easier on the back end. Too bad ISU only managed a 3-2 record vs the cupcake #66 Sagarin SOS.

Why wouldn't Iowa fan use SOS to this point? The #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 SOS teams all have at least 2 losses. The #7 is Penn St and they have a loss and the #9 is ND and they have a loss.

Iowa is literally the only team with a topo 10 SOS than is perfect to this point, that is as legit as it gets. No matter how easy the schedule is the rest of the way, the fact Iowa got through the front half of their schedule without 2 losses is impressive.
Iowa can claim that "at the time" their schedule appeared tough. They have made it through all of their tough games unbeaten. I think what the posters are trying to point out is several of the tough games that got them the high ranking and SOS # are now falling flat. Hopefully ISU can finish strong which would only help Iowa SOS as Indiana (ranked #17 at game time) will end up 6-6 at best, and more likely under .500. Maryland looked like a good win at the time, but will probably end up 6-6, so unless Iowa State can turn it on and get back up in the rankings, at the end of the season, the only team in the rankings Iowa would have played would be Penn State.
Do you think if Iowa had a 6-0 record with only beating one ranked team at home and the rest of the teams at .500 or so, they would be ranked top 10, let alone #2?

Short answer: end of season will bear out how tough Iowa's schedule actually was. I believe the SOS is overinflated and they will end up with SOS in 30's (right around ISU's).

Hold on, I'm told that Sagarin SOS is the gold standard of all rankings here on this site? According to them Iowa's SOS is currently #10, so it is what it is. I would agree with you that Iowa's SOS is going to drop over the next 6 games. I also agree ISU's SOS will come up over the next 7 games, as how can it get any worse?

It is funny that ISU fans talk SOS right now considering Iowa has a good one, and ISU's SOS is pathetic and they have yet to beat another team that has a win over a FBS opponent.

Iowa State still has a pair perhaps (3) Top 10 games left on our schedule. Iowa doesn’t have a team that will end with a winning record left on their remaining schedule.

Yet we’ll here how tough ISU had it and how easy had it lol. Entirely predictable once ISU lost again to the Hawks. SOS means very little for Iowa. In all reality they either run the table and make the CFP or they don’t and won’t make it. They may make it at 12-1 but that would still require winning the conference. No one knows what it’ll look like but if Iowa runs the table they’ll certainly have earned their way there.

You're making a lot of assumptions with being "new" here.

Not one mention of Cincinnati's pathetic schedule out of anyone.

Perhaps 3 top 10 games left? LOL man. Texas won't get to the top 10 unless they run the table, and that won't happen as their defense is complete crap.

Cincy scheduled Notre Dame and Indiana in the noncon. They looked solid against Georgia.
They're a good team. I don't think anyone here is going to say they have some tough conference schedule.
Cincinnati played Georgia? I missed that one

Do you believe Michigan State is top 10 worthy? How many B1G do you think will be top 15 at end of the regular season? I will go with 3 B1G teams in top 15 and 2 Big 12 teams in top 15.
