How far can Iowa go?

The further EIU offense goes not being special will come back to bite them in the ass. Goodson is ok not great, the same could be said for the Oline. The QB is staring down where the ball is being thrown and it looks like he is not reading the field, but locking on to one, sometimes two receivers on every throw.

The Big 10 West is pillow soft, again no Ohio State on the schedule, so if they can get by Penn. State next week, they should roll, but the further you advance, the offenses get better, and can EIU keep up and win a game against a team that is not turning it over and can move the ball?

Friendly reminder that Maryland is the same team who beat West Virginia in game one. WV is looking like one of the better teams in the B12.

You act like Iowa’s defense has nothing to do with the opposing teams turning the ball over. They’ve shown through 5 games that they will consistently force turnovers. It’s not a one game fluke anymore.

There will be a game where this all comes crashing down on them most likely. Like I said, you can’t keep this turnover ratio pace up they have. It’s like to only happen once but it will be an ugly game when it happens because it will be like a minus 3 in the turnover department or worse.

I may end up being wrong but I am going off of history and data. Decades of it says they will have that one terrible day because that’s just what happens to teams in a season. We shall see who that is against though because that will matter. Against Penn State not good. But you can afford it against NW who is just awful this year.

ISU fans need to acknowledge (and I am a Cyclone fan):

1) Kirk Ferentz is a better coach than Campbell.
2) Brian Ferentz is a better OC than Herman.
3) Both teams have elite defensive coaches - but Parker is able to teach on the field discipline better. (hardly ever any penalties for silly emotional decisions).
4) Iowa's special teams is considerably better than ISU.
5) Iowa's strength / development program is still considerably better than ISU.

This may be one of Iowa's best teams, and they have a great opportunity to make the playoffs. If we try to excuse their success by listing their off the field problems, it will lead to them continuing to dominate us on the field.
Who is Herman? You mean the guy who hasn’t been here in forever?

You act like you are playing high octane offensives the rest of the year. From here on out, you do not face an offense ranked in the top 50. Teams that win getting turnovers game after game will struggle when that does not happen.

Last night was a perfect example of the way EIU is winning this year, getting turnovers, setting up the offense with short fields, the big difference last night was they were scoring TD's instead of field goals.

As long as the turnover parade keeps coming your way, they will be fine, no one in the West is worth a damn, but you guys talk like its the SEC West. This year is setting up like your 2015 season, you play crappy teams week to week, then when you face a talented team like Stanford, you got embarrassed.
EIU fans like to rip on the Big 12, saying no one plays defense, but the opposite could be said of the Big 10, the offensives outside of OSU, suck.

All of that is true, we are not on their level yet, that is why we lose. I mean, I don't think they are really better athletically/physically, but they are way better between the ears. They have the right mindset, very disciplined and that counts just as much in football as the physical part.

Are one game matchups the end all be all in comparisons? NW ran away with the West just a couple years ago and couldn't beat Duke or Akron.

I agree with all of this except.... it should say Manning instead of Herman for OC... and I'm not sure that Iowa's strength/development program is any better than ISU's anymore. Other than that.... it is all true.

And the worst thing of all.... Iowa's offense looks a lot more efficient and dynamic than ISU's... and that is not a praise for Iowa's offense.... it's my utter frustration with ours. Iowa has WR's and TE's running free all over the field... they use misdirection (and we don't).... they throw deep (and we rarely do)... etc, etc, etc. Just really frustrating. And Iowa's offense is mistake free.... while ours is full of mistakes.

Where did I say anything about Iowa playing high octane offenses the rest of the year? Where did I say anything about the strength of the Big Ten West? You’re just making things up now because you have nothing else.

I didn’t say any of those things. Iowa’s defense is elite. I said that. Their offense is average. History shows that can be a winning formula if the defense is good enough. People keep saying that the Hawkeye D can’t continue to force turnovers like this, but they continue to force turnovers. At what point should it be expected?

I would agree with this. SC there still looks pretty good. The off field stuff from 2 years ago seems to be used by some on this board to attack IA out of envy. It’s not a good look.

Is it an elite defense, or a good defense playing crappy offensives? Do you really think any defense can continue to get 3 or 4 turnovers game after game? If you do, then you are fooling yourself. There is NO doubt the EIU is playing well, but your fan base act like they are ready for Alabama next.
Worst thing a coach or fan base can do is look at a team that is playing poorly thinking it will continue week after week, or playing well and think the same.

We are in week 5, we have a long way to go to start crowing about the playoff and EIU having an elite defense.

Wut? That makes no sense whatsoever.

Envy for what? Winning meaningless football games? There are a TON more important things in life than any sports.... and the Iowa athletic program has been awful for decades when it comes to the important things in life.... like treating people with dignity and respect.... mainly black people and women.

I will never be envious of that.... sorry.

Do I wish ISU was undefeated right now.... sure, obviously.... but I'd MUCH rather have them run a good clean program that treats people the right way any day of the week.

What is the purity test around here to qualify as an ISU fan? If it includes spewing vile nonsense count me out. Every fan base has a lunatic fringe though.

So the racism at Iowa is "vile nonsense"? Seriously? Nearly 70 former Iowa players said it existed there.... you don't believe them either? You definitely are a Hawk fan.
