How concerned should we be about the offense?

Offense played pretty well in 2nd half, just couldn’t punch it in once they got inside 5 yards. That and the really bad start is why we lost imo. Both can be corrected/worked on.

13 points in a half of Big 12 football is pathetic against a defense that's given up 35+ every game.

That was WVU's best defensive game of the season. They held us to 16, the same number they gave up to Delaware State.

Bad analogy.

Some wanted to think Kempt was the magic answer and used revisionist history to support that. The team improved to cover Park’s absence, but not enough to not drop a game or two
Well the coincidence of a unlikely new QB and even more unexpected victories against high ranked teams got the media and fans into a frenzy. Not to mention a huge amount of positive exposure for Iowa State. So driven by your love for this team, you've taken it upon yourself to repeatedly point our where credit should not be given. I think your one repeated sided opinion aimed at correcting what you preceive others are thinking, devalues your opinions and thats to bad, because you can bring some interesting ideas to the table. I think I will call this good and stop reading your comments because until Park comes back or the season ends they will be mainly all the same. Take care. Go Cyclones

Defend Park, thats cool. Comparing Kempt and Park, is like me comparing my current wife to my first wife. My current is not as good about somethings but is better at others. To use my first wife as a benchmark in the areas she was good at, isn't fair or logical, because she is no longer an option. Not the best example, but I hope you can see what I mean.

Not sure I follow. Best you include pics of both wifes, it may help.

All I have to say is the more I watch David Montgomery, the more I'm impressed. The kid's a beast--and his balance is amazing. Just imagine the numbers he'd put up if he had two or three road graders in front of him--because this year every yard he gets looks to be all on his own.

Why? You are kind of being an ******* to the players on our team. And whoever is telling you this is throwing the players under the bus. Not a good look by staff or coaches.

So I give some info and I'm an *******!?!? Get over yourself and calm down.

Nah we're good putting up sub 40 pts all year against terible defenses (KU, WVU, TTU...Anyone who says Kempt > Park knows less than 0 about football. Period. Not blaming Kyle, he was never supposed to be supposed to be in a situation to win a game in the Big 12. Typical dog **** Big 12 offense

You should ask yourself what good sharing this info does. And whoever told you this should ask themselves what good it does.

Throwing players under the bus is a crappy way to handle a team.

Lets count the number of Big 12 games that Park won.

Did anyone notice when we had a 3rd and 1 on our 41, there were 2 WR on the left sideline guarded by 1 defender. We ran the ball for no gain and punted. I wonder if anybody even saw that.

Happens a lot. One thing I get incredibly frustrated by is our inability to take 5 yards there or when teams back way off a slot guy. It's free yards. Take them.

And not to toot my own horn but this game was easy to see coming. It probably should have happened last weekend but at some point we were going to be one big play short. Today it was the inability to take advantage of borderline awful corners.

Well, yes, teams do have bad days. For ***** sake Ohio State lost by 30 today. Oklahoma list to Iowa State.

We had a bad day against a pretty good team on the road.

If he has a defense holding good offenses to 13, 7*, and 20 while pitching a shutout to the bad one? By my math, all of the same ones this year and 5-6 more last year.

This whole ******* narrative that Park wasn't any good and the QB change in itself bred this success needs to die.

I agree with you, love what our guys have done but would like to see us shore up areas of deficiency to become even stronger.

My OLine question has been, what has to occur for us to improve run blocking? Another year in the weight room (some say the OLine push is not good)? More reps as time moves along so that all the guys know each others tendencies better (gelling)? Technique, which will need time to improve?

Or, maybe the current starters are maxing its ability and to get better new faces with better athleticism need to emerge?

Older and more talent. Outside of JGJ, we lack one or the other at pretty much all times. They were considering pulling RSs on two freshmen Gs. It's one thing if it's LT where you can get by being really talented, or C where you can get help and get by being really smart but G is a really, really bad sign.

I am very concerned about our offense, WVU had a ****** defense and KK had a lot of bad passes. We couldn't convert on short yardage situations. OSU will be very tough KSU and BU are no gimmes. We have to score more points.

27-40, 249 yards, 1 td 1 int.

That’s a respectable line, whether it’s your fourth year starting or 5th game. No idea what would make you happy (other than an opportunity to be negative).
Yep, you’re a box score watcher and incredibly insecure. Raise the standard.

Kempt played really well, as did the whole team. Unfortunately we struggled in the red zone and the refs didn’t feel like calling interference any more.
He wasn’t awful but he wasn’t good. He didn’t make huge mistakes but he missed numerous open receivers in big situations. He also again had difficulties completing long balls. I’m thrilled for what he has done so far but I’m back to not convinced he is our best option. He has done about as much as you can expect for him to do but he just isn’t a Big 12 starter.

Would Park have won all of these games no probably not but I think he would have us at minimum 5-4. He almost certainly won’t be back this year so he isn’t an option anyway.

I think that we have to look at the feasibility of Noland. He is young and inexperienced but I think he might be needed to win Saturday. Our defense has played great but we will have to score some. I’m not sure Kempt running the offense will do enough. He won’t have us get blown out but I don’t think he can lead us to win. Noland may really struggle and lose by more but I think he gives us a better opportunity to score enough.

Now do you make the switch? I don’t know. I’d think this is really situational. If we are playing KState or Baylor you definitely stay with Kempt but being OSU I think you may do it given the matchup.

It's pretty easy to know why we struggled. Meeker was out. Knipfel went out after getting his leg rolled up. Even with both those starters the o-line isn't good at run blocking. It's embarrassing how many tackles David has to break to get a decent running game going for us. O-line needs to man up. Period.

I hate the criticize the staff given how amazing they've done...but a huge glaring obvious mistake we're making is jumping offsides on almost every single play in wildcat or lan ram the past two games. It especially stings because I think the goal line series that could/should have tied the game really could have been exclusively one of those and it's 20-20.
