Regular price at Hy-Vee is $8.49, don't think he's making anything seem worse than it is.

While Hy-Vee pisses me off to no end, we can agree they likely pay their people better including better benefits (and benefits even for part time employees).Hy vee is a high inflation driver. Check the same product at Walmart.
My son just started there, no I won't agree with you. While Hy-Vee pisses me off to no end, we can agree they likely pay their people better including better benefits (and benefits even for part time employees).
By CPI definition (year over year) - sure, 3.7% today. Here is what the CPI data looks like compared to the summer of 2020:
Gas: +73%
Home prices: + 40%
Used cars: + 32%
Electricity: +24%
Rent: +23%
Food: +20%
-----------------
Wages: +14%
Subtract out the 14% wage and there's the inflation consumers actually feel.
No kidding, that's the depth of Covid when prices were dropping. There are morons that are using oil/gas prices from that time as a baseline. Why are you using the summer of 2020 as your baseline? That's an odd choice.

This is a housing thread - housing prices spiked in late 2020. How is that an odd choice?

The numbers are meaningful, and I’d like to see it presented as a percent of total population as well.Trying to steer things back on track, I thought I would share this study about the underproduction of housing on a state-by-state basis and what that means for real estate markets --
There no need to read it. They have a nice map summarizing their calculation of housing undersupply by state. Their metrics actually put Iowa in a relatively good supply/demand mixture --

California is short almost a million housing units. Eek.
The numbers are meaningful, and I’d like to see it presented as a percent of total population as well.

Or if you prefer a ranked table. Iowa is #40 on the list between Montana and South Carolina.
