Hey you guys from Iowa...

A lot of people would rule out a minority or a woman without even looking at the issues. I think most people would be okay and not let this affect them, but even a small percentage that do reject them immediately would put them in a hole.

There's also people who will vote for a woman or a minority candidate because they feel "it's about time." Lots of people like seeing history being made. I'm more interested in having the best possible President.

There was a poll this past fall asking citizens if they felt that the US was "ready" for a woman or minority president/presidential candidate. Only 40% said yes. Granted these are small percentages of the actual population, much of the time you can get a semi-accurate representation of the population as a whole. Also, saying that we're "ready" does not mean they'd vote for them either however. I'm "ready" for a beer, but I'm not going to have one yet.

I think this may be a big reason that these two can succeed this year... Couple that with the absolute racial disaster you had following the Hurricanes and I think you will have a pretty good situation for Obama. You will have the people that don't normally vote at all lining up in record numbers...

Exactly, I think that women and "minority" voters are ready to go nuts and vote for whoever isn't a white male no matter what they say.

Obama has alot of things going for him, you have the minority vote because of his heritage, women vote because of his backing from Oprah, and moderate vote because well, he has some solid ideas... If this things gets going full steam it could be a pretty one sided race...

I would vote of McCain just based on the fact that he does not side with his party all the time. He does whatever he feels is right. That is way too rare nowadays.

Even though I'm a Democrat, I like McCain. He's huge on environmental protection and doesn't side with his party when they try to do somthing stupid. I'm NOT however, a fan of the troop increase. GRrrrrr!:no6xn:

And you lose all the male vote because you have a backing from Oprah. That is a ringing endorsement for me to NOT vote for someone.

I find it funny that Tommy is running behind in his own state. Channel 13 reported that Hillary had double the numer of attendees at her function when compared to the Ex Gov. Then Obama had 5x the people that were at the rally for Tom. It was big enough that they had to move it to Hilton.
Why waste you time running for this office? I think it's safe to say that he's putting his name out there for a job if the Democrats win. There's no need to waste any more money then he already has.

Besides, did anybody see him on the Jon Stewart Show? I thought that Stewart caught him and had to bail him out. I was not impressed with that interview.

Good point. I always get into "discussions" with the women at work about Oprah. I can't stand how her minions clap at everything she has to say.
So sayeth the Oprah, so sayeth the people. Come on. Think for yourself.

Oprah/Dr. Phil in '08? Just a thought.

Not much worse than the rest of the losers/liars/weasels we have at all levels of government.

The school he's went to was in kindergarten, although you wouldn't know that by hearing a lot of what is said about it. All you hear is he went to a school that trains terrorists. If he were a Republican, you would hear conservative outcry about how the liberal media is trying to brainwash people into thinking he's a terrorist. But since he's a democrat, you don't have that outcry. Its just a story and no one cares that how is comes across is rediculous.

The media is republican-biased?!?!?! Never heard that one before...

vilsack is a moron he screwed iowa teacher more than they already are, we are what 45th in teacher pay and we used to be top five in education, but last i saw we were like 25th. Thanks a lot ex gov you did a whole lot to help out iowa. i guess he figures "hey, i've just about ran a state into the ground why not a whole country" no thanks.

OK. I will break it down in the simplest terms, If you are raising 100 Million dollars plus for a job that pays 200000 per year for the rest of your life, your opinions will never truly be your own. Somebody bought and paid for you, and they own you. Look at the oil companies, and the military industrial complex, and the current president.

Vilsack is a clown. He is setting himself up to the left of a party which is already too far left. I'm all for a third party candidate. We just need one who is a little less quirky. They always make a ton of sense for the first 10 minutes of an interview, and then get all screwy.......like, I'm for reforming the campaign finance laws, I don't take any money from special interest groups, we need to deal with social security now, we need to deal with our immigration problem now, and when we get done with all that, I am going to invade Canada.

Vilsack as president- no chance.
Vilsack as vice pres- real chance

Think so? What does he bring to the table? Which candidate would benefit most from having him as a running mate?

Iowa is important to the process, because we're an early indication of who're the stronger candidates. But at election time, Iowa is not so important because we only have a few electors.
