Hawks NCAA chances

Sound familiar? Sounded like the number of total games that almost all Hawk fans thought Iowa State would win in football. No need to count me in this group. I knew this years Iowa team was still going to be improved from last years that won 4 in conference. I just think that Iowa's games with Wisconsin, Northwestern, and at Nebraska are going to be tough. Illinois shouldn't be a problem but even then it is still a road game.

Illinois will kill them.

Unless they forfeit the rest of the season after tonight's beatdown.

The thing that is exciting though from an Iowa fans perspective is this.

Iowa is 14-13 (6-8) right now. I know this is a dangerous game to play, but just for a second, assume Iowa pulls out the PSU game and doesn't blow their double digit lead against Nebraska, and beats Campbell.

That moves them to 17-10 (8-6). Still a horrible RPI, but should at least be in the discussion...that's the light at the end of the tunnel that is starting to show up.

That said, it's still just as easy to play what if Wisconsin shoots better than 3% from 3 and so on, but they've definitely improve (plus 2 could have won games with Purdue).

I think as the team matures it's reasonable to expect that home game vs Campbell or Nebby to be in their back pocket at this point and not the anchor dragging them down right now.

When is the last time you could reverse Iowa's fortunes in 2 or 3 games and have a hypothetical case for the bubble. I know it means nothing in reality, but it is encouraging after some of the worst season's in Iowa history.

Plus, the game next year will have a little more spice with ISU coming off an NCAA appearance and an Iowa team that should at least have legit NIT hopes. A lot of freshmen to hope for the bubble next year, but not impossible...still think 13-14 is the year for the big step.

If only that darn Campbell didn't have a big guy that dominated the paint and the boards on both ends and a guard they couldn't hope to stay in front of.

According to most websites Iowa's chances of running the table is 0.92%. That's miniscule.

On the other hand you have a 17% chance of losing out

So odds makers say we have less than 1% chance of winning our last four games? When have they ever been wrong? I'd give them a 10-15% chance of going 4-0, just based on what I've seen this year. 20% chance of going 0-4, the rest split between 2-2, 3-1, or 1-3.

Have you even watched Illinois lately? They may still win, as it's at home and they are more talented. But that team has quit.

Yea I don't think anyone has to worry about getting killed by Illinois. I wouldn't put it past that team to lose out. I don't even think they will make the NIT at this rate.

The no talent scrappers against talented quitters is always an intriguing match-up.

I wouldn't call any of those "marquee" wins. Wisconsin is the most overhyped and overated team in the country, Michigan is horribly inconsistent even though the media is trying to pump them up as a top-15 team, meanwhile you have Indiana who has fallen on their face more than a few times.

Big 10 is average just like it always is. For some reason this year the media has decided to call them the best conference. I feel as though most of the "BCS" conferences are pretty even this year.

I know man. You can't turn on the TV without seeing all the Wisconsin hype, it's nothing but Jeremy Lin and Wisconsin hype on ESPN.

Seriously, though what the hell are you talking about? How is Wisconsin, the number 15 team in the country, over hyped?

Iowa's got talent, it's just not at an elite level. But this is the situation where hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard. In many cases, that saying is actually crap. But when the talented team has quit like Illinois has, they might as well be high school scrubs.

That saying is crap in all cases. Coachspeak personified.

How do you know Illinois has quit? Did they tell you?

Stringer doesn't make any mention of malpractice in her book. So I'm inclined to not buy that from you (you're every bit as biased as you see the media to be).

You're inclined to remain forever ignorant like most Iowa fans. They settled out of court.

You're on crack

The fact of the matter, the Iowa fans on this site proclaiming they never implied that Iowa was on the NCAA bubble this year, are still at their watercoolers at work every day speaking in excited tones about Iowa's mbb NCAA chances this year.

they're hilarious.

I don't talk to anyone I work with about Iowa basketball. Actually I don't talk Iowa basketball to any of my friends, either.

I find that hard to believe, working at the Piggly Wiggly....the 'grocer of choice' among Tavern Hawks

No, I'm inclined to not believe something based solely on the word of an anonymous poster on an ISU message board, with an extremely well-documented bias against Iowa.

I wouldn't believe that there's no God based on what Satan tells me (you're not Satan, but it's the same principle).

Right, hard work NEVER beats talent when talent doesn't work hard. I guess guys like David Eckstein are just figments of our imaginations.

And if you can't see that Illinois has rolled over on Weber, then I don't know what to tell you. It's painfully obvious, even to a fan that hates Illinois. That doesn't mean Iowa is going to win, but Illinois is unlikely to be killing anyone the rest of the way.

Nothing will cure what's ailing a team faster than a visit from the Big Ten version of the Washington Generals.

I don't see how any one baseball player can be any kind of example of "hard work beats talent".

Ask any Iowa fan with knowledge of the situation.

You must live in some chicken coop
