Hawks NCAA chances

Texas Tech has a shot at making the NCAA Tourney, that is if they win the conference tourney. So yes, the Hawks do have a shot at making it.

i rest my case---two prominant Iowa coaches and you never heard of them. typical Iowa fan

Angie Lee is a former Iowa basketball player who played for C. Vivian Stringer, and was brought on as an assistant before taking over after Stringer left for Rutgers. She resigned in 2000. The reason I know this is because I've read Stringer's a****iography three or four times (excellent read, very inspiring).

Beglin is the former field hockey coach who really created the excellent tradition the program has. She retired in '94. I had to look that one up. After all, I was four years old when she retired.

So, Jambalaya, according to you, I need to know a women's basketball coach from 2000 and a womens field hockey coach from 1994 in order to be a true Iowa fan?

Maybe more fans, but not more grads. Both schools put out roughly the same number of of people.

Regardless of what we all may think of Kirkwood dropouts who only left school because they were too busy drinking to bother with classes, they are people too. And their eyeballs on the screen are every bit as valuable as those of an ISU or Iowa grad when it comes to ratings/sales/subscriptions/etc.

Iowa owns the eastern market, ISU owns the DSM market.

There is the problem. I don't think either one of those statements are true and a market demographic study should prove it.

C'mon, even UNI fans have packed up hope for awhile, and we have an RPI of 63 and an SOS of 35. I have faith that a majority of Hawkeye fans realize they probably won't even receive an NIT bid.

There are only two teams in the B1G who are projected to finish with an SOS outside of the Top 30 in the nation. One is Nebraska at #33. I'll give you a guess as to who is the other at #70

I've only heard hawk fans say they are on the bubble if they win out the regular season and win 2 in the BTT. That's the only way we are even on the bubble, and at that point, probably still not in the tourney, but they'd be in the bubble talk, just the outside looking in. That would put them at 20-14 overall. With that being said, we have no chance at doing it.

It's funny how most hawk fans are marking that Nebraska game on the road as a win when they didn't beat them at home. Iowa has not been consistent in conference play so I really wouldn't expect anything more than 2-2 in the final 4 games. 1-3 would also not surprise me.

I certainly don't expect 4-0, but the possibility is there (and it's not miniscule). We've beaten Wisconsin on their home floor. Illinois is in free-fall. The Nebraska game is probably the worst of the year. We had no business losing that game. And we get Northwestern at home.

Not one of those games are unreasonable possibilities for wins. Iowa has a decent chance at a 4-0 finish. I'm expecting 2-2, but wouldn't be shocked with just about any result at this piont.

You're not a fan if you can't tell me the 100m freestyle times for all swimmers on the Hawks' 1978 womens swimming team, no google. I await your embarassment.

There were ISU fans saying Iowa would win 1-3 conference games this year, so it doesn't surprise me that you say that. People thought Indiana would blow out Iowa. People also thought Iowa would beat Nebraska. The team is very inconsistent and you can't predict anything they have done. They could go 3-1 or they could go 1-3 just as easily.

I'm done for. Handing in my fan card as we speak. You guys got any openings? I don't know your gymnastics coach, though.

For starters, they have no chance short of winning every game until the Big 10 championship, and if they don't win that game they are a bubble team.

The odd thing about Iowa is that they have what a lot of bubble teams lack: marquee wins. They have wins @Wisky, Mich at home, and Indiana at home. Their issue is they lost a lot of VERY winable games. If they would've won like 3 or 4 games that they should've they would be a stron bubble team.

Imagine if they beat Campbell, Nebraska, @ Penn State, & Clemson. 3 are home games and 1 was on the road against argueable the worst team in the Big 10. They turn the tides on those games and they are 18-9 and 8-6 in league play.

That said, I feel dirty even talking about Iowa when ISU has a great thing going. But, it is a message board and kind of an interesting discussion....

I wouldn't call any of those "marquee" wins. Wisconsin is the most overhyped and overated team in the country, Michigan is horribly inconsistent even though the media is trying to pump them up as a top-15 team, meanwhile you have Indiana who has fallen on their face more than a few times.

Big 10 is average just like it always is. For some reason this year the media has decided to call them the best conference. I feel as though most of the "BCS" conferences are pretty even this year.

Iowa has lost 5 of their last 8 and 7 of their last 11 after going 8-5 in an embarrassingly bad non-conference slate.

Squarely on the bubble.

According to most websites Iowa's chances of running the table is 0.92%. That's miniscule.

On the other hand you have a 17% chance of losing out

Sound familiar? Sounded like the number of total games that almost all Hawk fans thought Iowa State would win in football. No need to count me in this group. I knew this years Iowa team was still going to be improved from last years that won 4 in conference. I just think that Iowa's games with Wisconsin, Northwestern, and at Nebraska are going to be tough. Illinois shouldn't be a problem but even then it is still a road game.

I agree it is more likely Iowa loses out than wins out, though i am fairly confident they'll fall somewhere in between those 2 extremes.

In the end, it doesn't matter what they do the last 4 games in regard to the NCAA tournament. They're not going unless they win 4 Big Ten Tourney games.

The thing that is exciting though from an Iowa fans perspective is this.

Iowa is 14-13 (6-8) right now. I know this is a dangerous game to play, but just for a second, assume Iowa pulls out the PSU game and doesn't blow their double digit lead against Nebraska, and beats Campbell.

That moves them to 17-10 (8-6). Still a horrible RPI, but should at least be in the discussion...that's the light at the end of the tunnel that is starting to show up.

That said, it's still just as easy to play what if Wisconsin shoots better than 3% from 3 and so on, but they've definitely improve (plus 2 could have won games with Purdue).

I think as the team matures it's reasonable to expect that home game vs Campbell or Nebby to be in their back pocket at this point and not the anchor dragging them down right now.

When is the last time you could reverse Iowa's fortunes in 2 or 3 games and have a hypothetical case for the bubble. I know it means nothing in reality, but it is encouraging after some of the worst season's in Iowa history.

Plus, the game next year will have a little more spice with ISU coming off an NCAA appearance and an Iowa team that should at least have legit NIT hopes. A lot of freshmen to hope for the bubble next year, but not impossible...still think 13-14 is the year for the big step.
