Hawkeyes whining about postseason baseball

Iowa at this point would be better off dropping the baseball program like we did 2 decades ago. Sure, the rest of the Big 12 fans like to mock us for not having a baseball program, and while it would be kind of fun to once again have ISU baseball, at least we’re not wasting money on a dying sport that has no chance whatsoever of winning anything significant in the conference it’s currently in.

I think Iowa State needs to adopt a sport that nobody cares about, and that we are average to below average at best at, and try to pretend that it's a big deal, and we are elite.

Sorry if I offended anyone who didn't realize that nobody really cares about sports not named football and basketball.
And yet you're posting in a thread about it...

Wait, College Baseball? What is that?
Well, guys don't go straight from high school to MLB so it's either college baseball or minor league baseball. Here in Honolulu, there is no minor league baseball so college baseball is the highest level of baseball to watch. Otherwise, it depends on the school as to whether there is much fan interest in it.

College baseball regionals - and then the College World Series - is a great time of year.

Hate EIU with the best of them, but this comment is silly. EIU has plenty of money with the Big 10 TV deal to support baseball, and the entire league has to play in cold weather. It was totally different for ISU in the Big 12, where the Southern schools could get outside in the winter, while ISU was forced to begin practice inside. Lots of nice warm winter days in Jan/Feb in Texas and Oklahoma, not many in Iowa.

College baseball and softball are more popular now then they ever have been, and getting better.

And unlike MLB there are no asinine blackout rules.

The thing that kills me about Big 10 baseball is I can watch an ACC or SEC baseball game on tv just about any night of the week but the Big 10 network is showing some football rerun instead. It's pretty obvious that the Big 10 doesn't even care about baseball enough to even bother showing it on their network.

It's funny, I don't get the Pac12 Network here in Honolulu so I don't see what they show there, but I see a good amount of SEC baseball on the SEC Network including studio shows that cover it.

This cold weather thing is fascinating. Corvallis Oregon must be gorgeous.
Yeah, that's a good point. They are plenty north and get lots of rain in the winter, but of course they don't get as cold. Would be interesting to see an analysis of how they have been able to be so consistently good.

The SEC has done a great job of taking the money they receive from TV, and not only continuing to build up their football programs, but now using it to enrich their other sports.

It was not that long ago, that SEC men's and woman's BB was an afterthought, outside of UK, no one cared, but with the extra money they are getting from TV, they have started hiring better coaches in both men's and women's and the sport is taking off on a national level.

They are now doing the same with baseball and softball, using the SEC network to get games for both sports out there and building up a fan base for both sports. This will be improved even more when UT and OU move to the league, both have a great history in both sports.

ISU doesn't currently have the money to do that.
That went right over your head. Everytime someone starts a thread about college baseball someone has to post about bringing back ISU baseball. The link where they talk about moving back the start of baseball season was the prime opportunity.

I thought the sarcasm was clear in my post.
