The problem with Gessell and free throws is you rely on your point guard to be handling the ball in those tight games so he is the one who is going to get fouled down the stretch.

Well Gonzo's smart enough not to say something that dumb....

Yep, like a late season 'good loss' will get Iowa in a better position for the post season.
Ive never seen an otherwise pretty decent FT shooter choke so bad as Gesell did in Hilton two years ago. I mean if he even makes one of those, that game might have ended much differently. ISU is shooting for a tie instead of the lead, and even if Niang gets the reverse around White and Lurch Iowa still has the last shot, which at worst if they miss it goes to OT.
Marble missed late in that game too, Iowa has had some really good players the last 3 or 4 years who disappear at the end of games. Marble, White, Uthoff, gessel....all were nowhere to be found late in games. Heck this season it seems like every game Iowa wins, they win easy but they lose any game that is competitive in the final minutes.
That'd be 5 late season losses. Get it right.
You usually don't see these words in the same sentence. They did manage to pull out that four point win at home against Baby Pitino's mighty crew.

Gesell wants the ball late in the game when the pressure is on. He screws the pooch too much, but at least he's got heart. I respect him for that.

They just said on the pregame show that Woodbury is a good shotblocker.
