Hawkeye fans are scared

Eh us hawk fans just come here to keep the ratio stable. There are prob more than a dozen ISU fans on HN with 1,000 plus posts. Eh, as for Pwual Wrhoads it takes more than a below .500 season to scare us. Idk you guys seem to forget two of the last three were blow outs and this last one was an overtime decision .....Not exactly something to be cocky about ;).
Not sure who Pwual Wrhoads is?

Jamba - not an 'ardent Hawkeye fan', but please, you have to give credit where credit is due. Fry built the Hawkeye program up from the depths..
I know all about Iowa's sucky 19-yr history pre-Fry. Hayden had a great knack of putting together younger coaching talent mixed with wily veterans. He also had (and still does have) the biggest ego in the world....evidenced by resurrecting the fraudulant ANF campaign to stroke him some more, in retirement. I give credit to Fry for creating their phoney campaign for farmers in the 80's, while ISU sat on their hands. Fry doesn't give a rat's a#s about farmers, and the the U of Iowa has never had a pro-Ag history.

Fast forward to present, with tillable farmland at an average of $10,000/acre, thank gawd we have the Great Raisin Face and ANF shills to once again save the American farmer in 2012. Thank gawd for the U of Iowa, who has contributed infinite technology and expertise to the Iowa farmer

LOL NOT

Eh, give Iowa fans a break. They cant help that Kirkwood doesn't have as good of an Agriculture program as ISU.

Blah, blah, blah ,blah ,blah...........blah ,blah blah. How about it Jamby-were there 1 shooter or 2 on the grassy knoll????

Jamba - not an 'ardent Hawkeye fan', but please, you have to give credit where credit is due. Fry built the Hawkeye program up from the depths. Arkansas was brought up due to the incident with Petrino and the absence now of a head coach. Rhoads' name is brought up, in particular by a bunch of Hawkeye fans because they cannot hide the fact that they are nervous because of the upward trend of Cyclone football (combined with the opposite trend in IC). I bet if you went to a Hawk message board that there is a thread about Rhoads going to Arkansas or some other school eventually because, well, Ames is Ames and ISU is ISU.

I believe Rhoads to be a man of vision. When he pointedly told a group while pointing to Jack Trice that a ticket will be hard to come by eventually, I think he means it & will work non-stop to produce the results that would lead to this happening. So, I believe Rhoads (should he stay long enough) will surpass Fry's legacy at Iowa, hence why I brought up Broyles @ Arkansas - he elevated Arkansas to a point Iowa has not reached.

So again, Jamba, do not let your intense hatred blind you to who is actually on your side (although with much less vigor than you commonly display). When dealing with Kurt-followers, you have to lower yourself to the lowest of low denominators. Most posting against me in this thread have no idea how bad Iowa sucked & for how long.

You think Rhoads will take Iowa State further than Iowa because he is a hard worker and has a "vision?" So do you think Fran will take Iowa MBB to heights surpassing Doctor Tom? Fran is a noted hard-worker and also has a vision for Iowa's MBB team. Or does this line of thinking only work when an Iowa State coach is involved?

All this "scared" talk is complete nonsense. I find it funny that many in here actually think something like this exists. What is there to be afraid of? It's not like if ISU were to rise and become a national power (which takes a LOT of time to get to that status, I don't consider Iowa close to being a national power), it doesn't mean that Iowa has to be a bad team for it to happen. There is no reason that the programs cannot coexist. The main issue maybe would be the soft in-state recruiting grounds but as the programs recruit out of the state as often as they do because of these same soft recruiting grounds in the state, it is not a deal-breaking issue.

Yea, I'm really sad I don't live my life through a football team, and an university i never attended and can't find on a map. Wish I could be an Iowa fan. Just have to scrape up $6 for a Walmart Herky shirt to feel a part of the dynasty. I'll just remain sad

Yup, just sad.

I saw some trees in Iowa City that you could poison.

I think Rhoads is a great coach & motivator, but I think he has been able to garner & direct momentum from the field of play to the fan base & would-be supporters better than about anyone could have given the circumstances. One of our commits from this past class went to a game as a potential recruit for the other team. He left the game convinced the style of football he'd like to play & be a part of was Cyclone football.

Don't know if Fran has generated the immediate loyalty & momentum Rhoads has, though I think he very well could. Most fans thought there was a level to reach beyond what Dr. Tom could achieved - that he plateaued. Turns out he was pretty damn good (even those years w/o Raveling's players) & trying to get back to those levels has been pretty damn difficult. Combination of Dr. Tom being ousted the way he was & McCann being booed vociferously in Kinnick that I witnessed in person really turned me off to Hawkeye athletics. Yes, before that I was one of 'those' fans - one that would cheer & back the Hawks when they were not playing the Cyclones.

So, Rhoads has been very effective at sharing his vision & getting a majority of Cyclone nation to believe in it. Time will tell if he & the fanbase can continue this trend & the challenge will be what happens when hiccups or adversity rears its ugly head. I remember pretty well when Nebby had been roughed up in a couple bowl games & the 'Skers wanted Osbourne out. He prevailed & went on to win 2 national titles. Patience & perserverance pay off if you have the right person, but fans are fickle & want instant gratification.

OK - so Hawk fans are not in a fetal position in the corner of a room sucking their thumb over the rising Cyclones juggernaut. We agree.
However my friends who are Hawk fans are very 'concerned' & 'worried' with the Iowa football program in general. Happens when talent level falls & several changes occur within the coaching staff. The No.1 issue is the lack of big-playmakers on O. Iowa appears not to have any.

Coinciding with this general downward trend is the upward trend of Cyclone football. The timing could not be worse. True, there is no reason the programs cannot coexist with both being at successful levels. But in a State such as ours, it is more difficult & the program with the advantage has an edge. Jamba & those like him will chastise me (well, that is a certainty because my last 2 posts give props to Iowa), but you can thank Hayden Fry for Iowa having this edge, then Ferentz for reestablishing the program & continuing it. Positive in-Rhoads have been made for ISU on in-state recruiting, though, & hopefully for us this continues.

I would say Iowa fans are way more scared about our returning players, than anything ISU, or our coaching staff changes, which can only help.
