Worst experience at Jack Trice? - HawkeyeNation Forum

I don't read Hawkeye Nation that much, and post there even less, but I couldn't resist responding to this thread. There's some absolute crap in here. In case you don't want to click on the link, I'll post some highlights here.

Now, Iowa State: No class. None. Verbal abuse. Stupidity and outrageous actions.. Throwing things at Iowa fans as they take their seats. Swear words, even if you are with children. Childish. If you challenge them about their behavior, they usually want to take a swing at you, since most of their fans are completely drunk by game time. The worst fans....ever. They abuse all visiting teams. Really one of the most vile places in college football to visit if you are rooting for the visiting team. If you don't believe me, ask Nebraska fans. They get the same marvelous treatment from these fools.

After my last visit there, I vowed never to return and I will keep my word. Really, I dread that game. If we win, everyone says no big deal. If we lose, we listen to their idiot clown fans for one full year, since all they really care about is defeating Iowa. Beating Iowa State means nothing to Iowa. It means everything to Iowa State. That is why it is not a true rivalry. The Iowa Nebraska game will eclipse the Iowa State series forever...Nebraska joining the Big Ten means that Iowa State has no meaning anymore for Iowa fans. This is really a series that has run its course.

I was cruising around Penn St scout.com site & ran across this thread. I was surprised to see IA St listed in one's response due to the fact that Penn St & IA St don't really have a relationship or rivalry. The game they played was a one-hit-wonder game. Way to leave an impression IA St fans.

RE: Rank your top 5 hated teams...

1. Miami - lingering effects from the 80's/early 90's and awful sidewalk alums
2. Tennessee - most hated Alabama rival
3. Iowa State - worst fan base I've ever encountered (Independence Bowl)
4. Georgia - terrible fans / mediocre program that acts superior
5. Hawaii - thug fans and players. Never seen more unsportsmanlike conduct penalties when we played them

honorable mention: Auburn, all PAC 10 schools, Clemson

A guy I used to work with is from Texas so went to a game when they played the Longhorns. He couldn't get over the abuse of having stuff thrown at him and the vulgar language that was screamed at him throughout the entire game.

I know that every fan base has individual idiots, including ours. But I thought I'd share this since this is a guy with no Hawkeye ties who couldn't believe how classless the Iowa State fans are.

Bottom line, it is just uncomfortable attending a game at Jack Trice. It is no fun at all, even when Iowa wins. You just don't want to be there and can't wait to get out of that environment. I have attended games at every Big Ten stadium and several others. Jack Trice is absolutely the worst environment for visitors in the country. They really have no perspective, no sense of humor, and no clue. Just a chip on their shoulder.

Based on what I've heard about JTS, and one game's personal experience (Okie State 2000), I'd wager that a lot of that is just crap (especially the first post). But even if it isn't, it's hardly like that kind of garbage doesn't occur with frequency at Kinnick.

It's a rivalry. The bad parts of each fan base is going to be just that much worse. I'm sure some of those people actually do believe all ISU fans just got out of prison and Hawk fans only leave church for gameday, but more than likely those people are the bad parts of the Hawk fan base.

Like I said over on HN, some of these guys have to be delusional and badly want to believe the crap they are writing.

I know that plenty of garbage goes on at Kinnick (I wasn't willing to get into that ******* match over on HN) to fans from everywhere. My girlfriend is a UNI alum, and she and I went to the UNI/Iowa game in '09. It was absolutely brutal. Some guy got ejected for trying to fight us. We were both wearing UNI gear. She had gone in 2005 as well and said that it was just as bad. She's never taken an ounce of crap from Cyclone fans in either 2007 or 2010.

I know it's just limited personal first hand knowledge, but it says a lot. Iowa's bad portion is going to be bigger than ISU's because Iowa has more fans, and more bandwagon fans, thus increasing the odds that there will be ******.

Just a bunch of BS. I wonder, if iowa fans hate JTS sooo much, why do they flock to it like it's the party of the year? I have no doubt that some do get treated poorly. But I know for a fact that ISU fans get the worse end of it when the game's at Kinnick. My hawkeye friends would MUCH rather watch the in-state game at JTS because they know things won't get stupid like they do in IC. Our tailgate for that game is 1/4 hawkeye, if not 1/3.

And ISU fans are REALLY going to give Texas fan crap? Come on. That flat out didn't happen. Texas is not a rival and no one ever expects ISU to beat them. What's ISU fan gonna say??? If someone actually did that, they must have been super drunk and definitely out of line.

PSU? ISU never played PSU in an Indy Bowl. They're likely talking about Bama. What few Bama fans there were in Shreveport probably heard about it a little because ISU got flat screwed at the end of that game. I know that I wasn't exactly feeling like cracking a beer and jamming to Skynard with them.

I really, really doubt that ISU is the worst place for visitors around the country. It may be the worst place for hawkeye fans, but that's it. Ask our conference opponents and I'm betting that most have no issues in Ames.

I didn't even bother reading that thread on HN just like I've stopped reading the one's over here. I don't doubt that some of that goes on. For instance, in Al's post, I was also at the Iowa/UNI game in '09 and the previous UNI/Iowa game (I forget the year, 05 maybe) wearing UNI gear and didn't get treated badly. In fact, I've never had a problem in Ames either wearing UNI gear. That doesn't mean that Al is fabricating the story, or that it's acceptable behavior, but that type of behavior is the exception and not the rule in both Ames and Iowa City.

Eh, Iowa City is a ******** and on gamedays is packed to the brim with highschool dropouts and knuckle draggers. It's to be expected that you're going to hear some **** from them.

Didn't you guys play Pitt in a bowl game? I would assume that's the game they were referring to.

I'm not sure why it is newsworthy that rival fan bases have animosity towards one another, going far enough to make up negative things. Laugh at it, and read a different thread.

Who cares.. Ive been to plenty of games at both JTS and Kinnick and both were fun. If you guys want a sht experience, try goin to a UofA game. When i lived in tucson, i went to maybe 8 or 9 games and ended up having to get stitches twice from people throwing bottles...

Still had a blast though.

Last year's Zona game was the absolute worst thing I have ever been to. It was nonstop heckling, trying to tempt us into a fight pregame/during game/post game, items being thrown at us, the list goes on. Couldn't cheer for a single first down without hearing four letter bombs being dropped at us. Went straight to the hotel and had to wash the crud off that had been thrown on us, let alone the stink from the game. Out of all the bad experiences combined at other stadiums, that was the worst I've experienced.

I will agree that what I saw on youtube from the Iowa/AZ game last year, that that was some of the worst fan behavior I've witnessed.

I blame Stoops. Why? Because I blame everything turdy on the Stoops family. Mostly based on Bob, but imagine his family is all the same.

Personally, I don't see the joy in going to away games. I have enough trouble making it to every ISU home game. It better be someplace either fun or historic for me to travel there...otherwise, TV is a lot more comfortable. IC and Kinnick are neither fun nor historic to me. In Lincoln at least the fans were nice.

I've had a blast visiting the other Big 12 stadiums. Even the ones that sucked, like Baylor, were still good trips overall. It's a lot of fun for me to get out, and see how people do things elsewhere. It's also usually a chance to see friends and family who no longer live in Iowa.

I almost got more excited for my road trips than home games.

I'm with Arizona fans on this one. Good for them.
