Oh come on.... You know dang well that the fanbase supports the players. However, I highly doubt if you polled anyone sitting in a stadium watching a perennial loser, they would say that they are just there for the kids. Come on...
Does this require further explanation, or can you connect the dots and color inside lines on your own
A) how is it "punishing" players to not attend football games? Nobody's under any obligation to fork over hundreds/thousands of dollars to sit in Jack Trice Stadium.
B) student athletes aren't children; I'd like to think that most of them have the maturity to not have their feelings hurt if people don't show up because their football team is terrible.
Talk about apples to oranges. New coach, finally having success for the first time in over a decade, and it was a post season tournament. Vs. ISU's situation.
So flippin' debatable it's not even funny. Fran couldn't make the NCAA tournament with two NBA draft picks on the roster, and has a record of 1-4 in postseason tournaments for the past two seasons. You're entering a huge regression year, and Mad Fran's "accomplishments" will look so different after you've turned in a couple more losing seasons.
All joking aside I do think a 7 or 8 win season with a win against ISU vs a 7 or 8 win season with a loss against ISU would be viewed completely different by Iowa fans when this season is over. I will admit that's usually not the case but the Super Bowl argument seemed to have lost some steam over the years
Actually it's nothing alike. Lick couldn't get his teams to the NIT (fans rebel). In comes Fran, team improves and qualifies for NIT and fans show support. ... So literally nothing like the comparison you're trying to draw, like at all.
Well, success is all relative. Wont disagree with you there. For us, after where LIckliter left us, yes a NIT birth, at that time, was a success. Would it be now? No. Im not really sure what you are arguing.
Its like you guys winning 6-7 games and getting into a bowl. Wouldnt you call that a success based on how the last few years have went? Would it be the same type of success for another, more successful program? No, but for you guys, it would be. Again, I dont see your angle.
It's a pretty obvious statement, because of how bad ISU is/has been. It's a lot easier to lose to Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern etc. but when you lose games to Iowa State, Illinois State, Purdue then of course there's going to be a different reflection on the season.

If your basis for comparison is Todd Lickliter, my dog would be considered a successful head coach. And no, I don't think 6-7 wins is considered a smashing success, even for a football program as awful as Iowa State's...it's mediocre at best.
