Has Haith or Self really done better than Fred?

I hear both being talked about for COTY more. But I think CFH has accomplished way more to get us to this point. He has done an amazing job recruiting, vetting, preparing, and leading these guys. He's even doing a great job from the sidelines and keeps getting better. KU and MU may be atop of the league. But they had way less distance to get there. With a strong finish he's got to have a strong chance, doesn't he? Don't forget, he's only in year 2 of his total coaching career. Regardless of honors this team receives, it feels FREDtastic to be cyclone bball fan again!

Well self is about to win the B12 for 4,5,6 ah **** it however many years in a row it will be now. That's pretty nuts by its own rights.

good points, but does the question of who's had a tougher job to get their team to their current level factor in. If so, I can't answer anyone but Fred on that.

Consider that Self lost 2 NBA lottery picks, another NBA draft pick, AND two other starters from last season. Understand that KU's bench may be one of the worst of any BCS-league team. And notice that they are perhaps the third-best team in the country as of today.

I might argue that this has been Self's best coaching job at KU yet.

2011-12 BIG 12 MEN'S BASKETBALL PRESEASON POLL
Team (First-place Votes) Points
1. Kansas (5) 73
Texas A&M (2) 73
3. Baylor (2) 63
4. Missouri (1) 61
5. Texas 51
6. Kansas State 39
7. Oklahoma State 33
8. Iowa State 27
9. Oklahoma 15
Texas Tech 15

Looking at what was expected and did they coach to the expectations or did they coach better than expectations. Self coached to expectations, Haith has improved 2 spots so far, everyone knew he had a talented team. Hoiberg has taken a team no one expeted to even be competitive and it in 4th place so far. As far as who has exceeded the expectations the most it would go to Hoiberg. There is no question who has coached the worst in the league, that honor goes to ATM by a long shot.

Haith reminds me of Bruce Weber when he took over after, ironically, Bill Self. Haith can coach with talent, we shall see what happens when he has to recruit. If he is anything like Weber, Mizzou will soon drop off.

Funny enough, Bill Self came out against this poll and said he shook his head and thought it was crazy, saying no way ISU falls to #8.

Dude knows what's up.

I would say it's a toss up. Kansas may have been voted preseason favorites in the Big 12 but they are low on talent this year. Self has done a great job.

I would say its a toss up as to who deserves COY more between Self and Fred.

No but that isn't necessarily what COY is about.

Not to mention Fred hasn't lost yet.

You could make a case for any of those three. Haith getting more out of Anderson's guys than Mike ever did, oh, and with Lawrence Bowers out. Self with a thin, low-talented (for KU's standards) team - will win the conference. Hoiberg with a collage of talent - no one thought had a chance of gelling.

I can't really get upset about whoever gets picked. I'd say Self, unless we win out... then Fred. I'll tell you who isn't the coach of the year though - Scott Drew. Most talented team, probably in all of CBB after Kentucky. Gonna get 3rd or 4th in a year in which the conference is down.

If I said Billy Gillespie would you laugh?
Well Fred was in that same last place situation last year.
Hoiberg is this year's XII Coach of the Year

It really doesn't matter what he lost. What does matters is what he had to work with this year. Poor Bill only had four four star players and one five star player waiting to step in. I feel real sorry for him. :jimlad:

Who has done more with less?? IMO CFH wins that one easily.

its Coach of the Year, not Coach of the Decade. MBN to have player of the year topped with all high rated recruits.

I think Haith has a legit claim. I would be neither surprised or angered if he wins over Hoiberg.

If Self finishes ahead of Fred, I'll be a little chapped. He's put together one of his better jobs this year, but its still KU, and he was still picked first. Wildly exceeding expectations has to account for something.
