GRAYER RETURNING TO MICHIGAN

Wonder if this has anything to do with the addition of Lefty Moore recently. Did he take over some of Grayer's turf? Hoiberg and Moore have always been good buddies.
Lefty Moore is a student assistant. He has not completed his bachelor's degree yet. I am pretty sure that he will not be allowed to recruit at all and probably not do much on court coaching if any. He is not the reason Grayer left. I bet they found a more qualified assistant to bring in and offered Grayer an administrative job and he turned it down.

Cant fault FH for this. FH has no experience and has the 'cyclone hero' card wrapped up. He needs assistants with experience, and Grayer did not fit that bill. Surprised this didnt happen sooner when Hoiberg was announced.

I believe Moore is working on his initial degree as an undergrad...

My bad. I didn't realize there was much difference in the positions though

". Moore will join the Cyclones as a student assistant coach while finishing his bachelor’s of arts degree"

Cyclones.com.

Jeff was never anounced as an asst. coach, and I can see why. You already have a Head coach with no coaching experience, the last thing you need is an asst. with little or no coaching experience. It was very nice of FH to try and find a place for Grayer after GMac dumped on him. Unfortunately the position does not fit into Jeff's plans.

That sounds like a good bet. The article said they are planing to hire a new assistant soon.

If Grayer wants to be a coach, I would think he'd be able to get a coaching job at a junior college or a mid-major. After he gets a little experience, maybe something will open back up at ISU.

Hopefully that bridge isn't burnt.

I'd think potentially, might depend on what arrangements were made before GMac left.

If I remember right...Grayer/Nurse were hired Thursday/Friday. McKnight/Godrey signed Saturday morning(ish) and Mac was offered Creighton job on Saturday night.

That story was doctored up. Those quotes from Allen are more about Iowa State's NBA connection than they are Grayer himself. Allen is here because of Otzelberger and Hoiberg's connections to the league. Grayer had nothing to do with it. Not dissing the guy. Just telling the truth.

Be careful with that CW...Some people don't like that.

This is too bad for Jeff, but Fred is proving his leadership ability by surrounding himself with the best assistants possible.

It would have been easy to settle for the sentimental choice, but that may not have been the best choice for success.

I wish Jeff nothing but the best.

Chris, did Jeff have any major impact that you know about regarding Royce White or any of the other recruits/transfers?

That's my recollection as well. But it comes down to contracts, agreements - and maybe moreso what has been arranged and Jeff accepted since the Hoiberg hiring.

If he accepted the AA position months ago, and now is leaving of his own accord... there isn't much grounds for a payout.

Whatever the case may be, I hope ISU does it's best not to send Jeff on his way with a bad taste....
