Got accepted to ISU today!!

I am a lifelong die hard Cyclone so coming here was an easy choice. That being said 6 of 8 of my cousins on one side and my sister went to UNI and loved it. It's pretty awesome being in the dome for a sold out game. UNI is ISU except smaller. If I wouldn't have gone to ISU I would be at UNI. I have a lot of friends up there and they all love it too. Only one friend has transfered to ISU and that is because she changed her major to biology so it was a no brainer.
This..my gf goes there but she is going to be a teacher but that is about all that school is good for plus i dont think anyone on this board is going to tell you to go to uni
I went to ISU, and I have never, ever regretted it. I came in undecided and still graduated in four years in Genetics. I had a great time as a student and a fan.
I went to UNI often because my best friend went there, and I was bored. It's a nice campus and a nice town, but I wanted a D1 experience, and you aren't really going to get that there in terms of sports.
If you feel that UNI is the place for you, then go there. I loved ISU, but that doesn't mean that you would be better here than at UNI. I'm now getting my Master's in Madison, and I love it here, too, but there's nothing like ISU for me.

I got accept to Iowa State back in September an live about an hour west of Ames. I cannot wait to start ISU next fall. Plan on going into management but especially Sports Management. Requested the maple residence hall..there alot of girls in this dorm?! Go Cyclones!
I loved my time at UNI and I still went to a ton of Iowa State games, Ames is not that far from CF
No matter what college I go to. I will be a die hard Cyclone. When I go to SDSU during holiday breaks and on big game football weekends I would drive down to see the games.
I lived in Larch, and I had a blast. It was dirty, but it was fun. Maple was a buzz-kill. It was clean, but that's all it really had going for it, in my book. It does have honors floors, and more bathrooms, however.
I wanted a fun place to live above all else, and that's what I got with Larch.
I'm sure you know this but we don't actually have a major in Sports Management or even a minor anymore.
I wanna say floors alternate between guys/girls. Willow and Larch the floors are co-ed (or at least were in 07-08).
I feel like I have some good perspective for you.
I also grew up 10 minutes away, in Boone. When I went to ISU I made a point to make as many friends from other groups as possible so that I didn't spend all my time with Booners. I actually spent very little time with them for the first year. I still have a lot of good friends from home and college and I had a great time at ISU without feeling too close to home.
My wife went to UNI, and really didn't like it. She transferred to ISU after her first year, graduated in 5 years with a masters in accounting and a CPA and now is really successful in a firm in downtown Des Moines. Don't underestimate the business school at ISU. There is a lot of talent in that place and IMO the school is underrated and top notch.
She got tired of being at a school where 50% of the campus leaves every week and a lot of the people she knew left as well. If you're looking for a true college experience I'd say go with ISU.
Also, my best advice I can give you, wherever you go, stay on campus the first month, don't go home at any time in those first four weeks, and you'll be a lot better off. Also, with communications the way they are distance isn't a big deal. I think everybody can talk about somebody they knew that grew up hundreds of miles away but spoke with their parents and high school friends so much it's like they never left.
Set boundries for your parents and high school friends, branch out, and going to school 10 minutes away will feel like a million miles away. Trust me, going to college in Ames is not like hanging out there on the weekends.

i currently live in maple and can confirm that it is guy/girl on alternating floors... i think it is really boring here, and i have some friends that live in birch/welch/roberts and it is a blast over there. Idk if it is my floor specifically or all of maple, but all the people on my floor have their doors closed and people dont really mingle too much. It is dead. When i go visit friends elsewhere on campus, their dorms may be crappier, the social aspect is much better as people are out and about much more.
Well I had the same decision...except i lived 40 minutes from ames...UNI is backpack college...every weekend that i went up their to hang out with my brother...a majority of the students go home...seemed like a ghost town....The only reason i could justify going to UNI is if i was and education major, which i decided against and then chose ISU....couldn't be more happy with my decision...
no i wasnt being biased at all, im considering graduate school at Iowa State as they have the program I want. I'm just stating facts and I even have friends at Iowa State who agree to this
The Hill sucks, Main street is where its at. And I was talking best business school for bachelors degree
