Wait, are you making fun of someone else's entrance? UNI is an FCS school, what's ISU's excuse?:wink:
If you don't have any idea of what you want to major in, go to ISU. The reasons for going to UNI are almost entirely about a few majors that you might not wind up in anyway
Lol I know, just on a list of the ones I visited. It got me out of school for a day for a college visit, plus my parents were trying to keep me closer to hope and kNU was less than an hour away.
Proximity to most of my family. Nice school, going into Animal Science, my family owns a ranch a couple hours away. When I graduate with my masters in AS I get the opportunity to run a research farm or I can eventually take over my grandpa's place when he retires.
If you want to get out and experience something new and different, then really do it. If you're only going to venture as far as Cedar Falls, you might as well go to ISU and get all the benefits you mentioned. UNI is the teachers college so if that's your major, that's a big plus for UNI. Otherwise, spread your wings!
ISU. If you go to UNI you'll just end up coming home every weekend anyway. It's a UNI tradition.

ISU's accounting program isn't too shabby either. The programs are often ranked by CPA pass rates, which are a function of several factors and not necessarily an indication of how good the school's program really is. UNI students take a test prep as part of their curriculum - ISU students don't - hence the higher first-time pass rate at UNI. If you want to become a CPA and go to ISU, most public accounting firms will pay for a prep class and materials. If you work hard and get good grades you won't have a problem getting a job when you graduate regardless of which school you go to.
Can't have said it much better myself...although I may be a bit biased since I get my accounting degree from Iowa State in May :wideeyed:
You don't even really have to work too terribly hard. Just have a decent GPA, a quality resume (internships internships and more internships), and you'll be more than fine.
FWIW, I grew up 10 minutes from Ames and probably went home less than some that were from 2 hours from Ames. It's kind of your own little world unless your parents come by all the time or something ridiculous like that.
It all depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for a smaller college where everybody kind of knows each other than UNI is for you. If you're looking to meet a lot of new people while still being close to some friends and family than ISU is the right choice. Also, if you want to be around a lot of attractive girls choose UNI. They're harder to find at ISU but sometimes quality is greater than quantity. At least thats what I tell myself.

From what I was told, the last 2 semesters of the accounting program focus on prepping for the exams. Some students tend to be "exam passers" instead of understand the accounting concepts
UNI also has good connections: a lot of big accounting firms like to go to Cedar Falls. Not sure how ISU fare against UNI in recruiting game.
My wife got her teaching from ISU and had no problem getting a job with one of the highest paying school districts in the state right after.
