Hey, everyone. I'm an out of town fan looking to hit up the town after the game. Any recommendations? Looking to avoid preppy frat bars btw.

Anything in campustown after a game will be fun...pick one and try it...there arent too many "preppy frat bars" in Ames...

I agree, no obnoxious bars exist in Ames. Just try one without a long line, you don't want to have to swim upstream through crowds all night.

Good to know. Just a couple of "preppy frat bars" in Kent. I wanted to pound in the face in of everyone whenever I got dragged into one of them. The only other College Towns I drank in were by Blowing Green State U, SUNY Buffalo, and SUNY Genesso and half the bars were filled with Frat @ssholes.

Ames isn't too Greek anymore. You will want to try Cy's Roost, Mickey's, or Paddy's. If you're looking for cheap drinks and even cheaper women, go to Sips:biglaugh: Just kidding, but they do have cheap drinks and a dance floor. Avoid Element. Most of the bars are on Welch Ave. just south of Lincoln Way. Have fun and welcome to Ames!

Just by the name Element I know I want to avoid it. Cheap drinks and women at Sips sounds good to be honest.

I'm pretty sure Element is the only 18+ bar in Ames, you have to be 21 to get into anywhere else. I've never been there personally, but I've heard plenty of horror stories, and have had plenty of underclassmen recommend going there during weekends.

I'm 24, just concerned if any places are ***** about out of state IDs. The couple of places that let in under 21 in Kent sucked, looking to avoid.

Heh, Sips was the first one that came to my mind when I thought "preppy frat bars" but that's just me... I doubt many places will have a cover so if you go to Campustown and don't like the bar you're at you can always head down the street with no problems. I'd recommend Paddy's, Cy's Roost, or Welch Ave Station. Enjoy the game and Ames.

Go to welch ave st. It is laid back, good drinks, and is pretty cheap. Mickeys and Paddys were built after my college years, so I cannot speak to them.

I like Welch Ave Station - it's a bit of an older crowd, but I find that to be more relaxing and generally have a better time when I'm there than any other bar in Ames.

Eh, I wouldn't worry about it. If they check your ID, they should be knowledgable enough to know there will be people from Ohio in town. I doubt they'll give your license a second look.

lol all the old people like welch ave. station...thats just funny to me. you can go ahead and go there, if you want to hang out with 40 yr olds.

i would stick with ia8manfan's recommendations. they seem pretty dead on if youre 24.

LOL, I'm from Upstate NY. I had to pull out 3 pic IDs to get into some bars in Kent. Ames sounds like fun. I went to an I-Cubs game a couple of years ago and the old ladies at the beer stand seemed pissed that I bought an Old Style with just at NYS ID.

Well, you know what they say about assuming. :wideeyed:

I don't know who the heck is telling this guy to go to Welch Ave. Station. That is the worst bar in Campustown. All it has is old people, pin ball machines and old people. Hit up Paddy's, Mickey's or Cy's Roost.
