I've been shaving my own head for the longest time, but I think I wanna try something new now and I'll defer to a professional. Any suggestions for a good, hopefully cheap barber around?

Never been to Monte, but I go to the All Cuts on LW once in awhile. The guy will talk your ear off, but he does a decent job.

When I'm in town I go to All Cuts. Good old school barber type. He will talk to you about some interesting things though.

Monty will talk ISU with you until you are blue in the face. I go to Hair Machanix...they let you drink beer while you get your haircut.

Monty is a relative of mine...great guy and huge Cyclone fan. Not sure if he still does, but he used to cut lots of coach's hair.

Check out the old Vlog from Tommy's Salon (I think that's it). You'll definitely want to check that place out and also support a CF business.
(this message was not brought to you in any part or by any persuasion from CycloneFanatic, Tommy's Salon or Chris Williams)

+1
I always went to Monty for haircut. Never disappoints me. Always have a nice chat about the Cyclones

I went to All-Cuts while I was a student. I’ll second what others have said about him talking your ear off. Although you will hear some interesting stories. The sign out front says walk-ins are welcome, but I usually ended up making an appointment.

I currently go to Tom’s Barber shop downtown. You don’t need an appointment here, and in fact I’m not sure that you can. Just first come, first served.

Is All cuts on Lincolnway right by US Bank?

If so I made the mistake of going there for my first haircut while at ISU. All the guy did was talk to me about how I should be drinking water and nothing else, even tried to give me a book on the benefits of drinking water. It was really annoying, I went for a haircut not a lecture on water.

After that I always went to Monte and now that I'm practically living in Ames again I will probably start going back to Monte.

That guy is a nutbar. He gives you reading pamphlets and a free comb on the way out.

i went there also. great place. isn't his name Ray? it's been a long time.

Yes, his name is Ray. IMO, very nice guy. Definitely a different character, but always interesting conversation. He genuinely cared about people too and always remembered insignificant things about me from our past conversations.

Good to hear he's still in business up there!

Big Monte fan. He was my landlord for a while and a good Cyclone fan. He has greatreading material also!
