Golf Sucks

Nobody said you can have 5 extra hits. If you top a drive that goes 25 yards into the water to the left, I don't have an issue with you teeing it up again. If you do it again, it's time to drop it next to one of your friends' drives. You won't get harassed if you know when and when not to take another hack.

The key to golf is know what stupid golf rules to break and when.

I always got a kick out of that unwritten rule. Hit a hole in one/get penalized. That won't be me.

I would be happy to. Hitting a hole in one is quite rare. Need to celebrate the likely once in a lifetime accomplishment. Buying 4 beers isnt going to break many people.

Now an unwritten rule at my local course is if you hit a hole in one on men's night, which is on wednesdays, the bar tab for the night is yours. The pins are set harder on mens night and it has been a long time since it has happened but when it did I think word spread through town pretty quick and the guy ended up with a very hefty bar tab that he was happy to pay.
Me on the other hand, if I would hit one on Wednesday, I would high 5 the people I was golfing with and run away.

I wouldn't mind it at all if I was friends with the kind of people who hang out in clubhouses or there were only 4 people haha. Probably not fair to generalize, but this is how I feel about my course.

One of my greatest fears is that if/when I hit my first hole-in-one it will be when golfing alone. That would suck.
Who am I supposed to buy a beer for?
Also, who is supposed to believe me?

I'd prefer I was alone. If people don't want to believe me (if I even tell them) I don't really give a ****.

My buddy has a worse one. He was out by himself, hit a shot into a par 3, dropped another ball and then knocked that one in. Now that would suck.

I’ve had three “hole in ones” just out playing two balls and hole jumping and ******* around when I used to have access to unlimited free golf. A lot of stuff happens when you play 54 holes a day over the course of 7 or 8 summers.

I have a buddy who shanked his first out of bounds on #12 at Cooper. Re-teed and dunked it. Great par!

I've been playing golf for 31 years, and I play quite a bit - for a stretch of 8+ years, 100+ rounds a year. I play about 75 rounds a year nowadays. I used to play alone quite a bit during the week, almost always with a foursome on the weekend. At 40 rounds/year, four par 3s per 18, and call it 3 in a group, I've seen somewhere around 15,000 attempts at a par 3. I've seen three hole-in ones in person, all three in the last four years. A hole-in-one insurance site puts the odds of a hole in one for amatuers at 12,500:1, so even though it feels like I've hardly seen any, I guess I'm well ahead of the average.

I have also seen on Freddie Couples par (hole in one after a lost ball). Friend plopped one into a ravine in Colorado, jarred the next one. We may him buy beers anyway.

In a high school golf tournament, my coach and the opposing coach happened to see me dunk one from about 100 yards. They come over and coach says "eagle! Awesome!" Ummmm....I hit the trees with my drive and had to punch out. "Well, still a pretty sweet birdie." Ummmm...did I mention I had to punch out from my punch out? "Did you at least make par?" Yes I did. "Well, nice par."

My wife has played golf maybe 4 or 5 times in her life. She's definitely felt and had people saying things around us which basically has made her never play again. It definitely happens, a lot.

Golf courses are still very much a male-dominated arena, and the males are often huge ******** to women. I played with a guy once who did not introduce himself to my girlfriend and would not address that she was even there, let alone, playing with us. He would only talk to me. That kind of behavior is insane but not uncommon with the older male crowd.

Agree. If I ever luck into hitting one there probably won't be anyone besides me to see it. Which is fine; I'll know I did it and I won't have to buy a round of beers for a bunch of strangers.

The brother of the previously mentioned buddy has 3 or 4 of them. I've seen 2 of them. One was at state golf in high school and I was on the hole right next to him and last year he hit one in the NW Am. We didn't get to see that one go in but standing on the tee, given 50/50 odds I would have bet it went in.
