Goals for MBB program-long term

I can't say I agree. Those players may have agreed to stay on with McD, but they weren't recruited, primarily anyway, by McD. I might be wrong on Dunson, but I thought he also was a Morgan kid that decided to still sign even with the coaching change. The 2007 class was McD's first class entirely recruited by him and his staff. The 2006 class was a split of some players recruited by Morgan's staff and McD's staff at the last minute.

About a year ago, I took a different job. When I got to that company, 4 months after I was hired, they sold out to a big corporate company that I had no interest in working for. Despite that, I still continued to work that job for another 4 months because A) I was already there so why not give it a chance and B) I could always spend time looking for something else while I'm being paid. I decided I didn't want to be there any longer so I found something else and left.

I tell you that story, which is true, because I see that being a similar situation to the players that stayed on with McD but were recruited by Morgan. They were Morgan's guys even if they stayed on with McD. I can't attribute their leaving to McD. If you do, we'll just need to agree to disagree.
Only you know the reasons you had no interest in working for a large corporation, but I fear that the reasons some of the players did not want to play for McD have to do with an offense that does not allow their talents to shine. An offense predicated on standing around and set plays would not excite me in the least bit if I was a top-level recruit.

Over the course of ten years I would think

6-7 NCAA Bids (winning first game 4-5 times)
2-3 NIT Bids
1 Conference title
1 down year/ rebuilding year

I would also like to see us make sure and take care of all of our out of conference patsy games. And we need to dominate at home. Beat everyone we should, pull a few upsets, and play even the best teams tough in Hilton.

Extra credit for getting player turnover under control, good graduation rates, and keeping players out of trouble. Though right now I really couldn't care less about this stuff, I would trade almost anything to get back to winning.

I would just like to see us get to the point where every year we expect to at least make the NCAA Tourney (with a few peaks involved..). I realize this has never happened at ISU...it was Eustachy's goal when he was here.

Eustachy and McDermott also both said when they took over at ISU that it was going to take three years for them to get things up and running...it only took Eustachy two, but then years 4 and 5 weren't near what they should've been due to player ineligibility. McDermott has ran into some very crappy luck, and that has set him back about a year I'd say...I guess I hope (starting this year) that we can have consistant success at ISU, where we occasionally challenge for a conference title...

I'd like to be challenging for National Titles every year, but I'll start small.

Dunson is not a Morgan kid. I dont know how we couldn't keep him around, he is still the best high school guard Gmac has recruited (hopefully not once Colvin gets here). Also, Gmac should not have ran Lawrence Westbrook off... he is the leading scorer for the Gophers this year, an NCAA tourney team. We could really use him. I guess his dad was a pain, but part of being a Big 12 coach is dealing with that.
A) Dodie left because of academics, nothing else....most of us know the story, but it's not discussed much for Dodie's sake
B) Way too much baggage with Westbrook. Way to much.

At this point I would be glad to get back to the levels we had from Orr's 4th year through Morgan's second year, 22 years total.

22 seasons, 16 winning, 5 losing, 1 even
12 NCAA appearances
3 NIT appearances
2 conference titles
several undefeated home seasons
For people that like to claim Iowa State's not that big a deal in basketball, those stats sure put a lie to that.

Long term MBB program goals:
***Over .500 in the Big 12. 9 wins would seem like a dream season. We're not that hard to please at ISU
***Recruiting a more athletic team with an emphasis on guards.
***A more up -tempo style of play, especially at Hilton. Good recruits do not like this slow set it up type offense and the fans don't either.

One of their goals should be to stop relying on the 3. Drive the damn ball, i'd rather loose that way then by throwing 3's up.

Creighton has managed some sort of post-season play (beyond their conference tournament) every year for the past 7 years. If Creighton can do it, we should be able to do the same.

On average, my goal for ISU would be to:

Finish in the top 8 of the big 12 every year.
Finish in the top 6 of the big 12 three out of every four years.
Finish in the top 4 of the big 12 one out of every four years.
Win either the big 12 conf. champ or big 12 tourny champ at least once every 10 years.

I don't think that is asking too much, and I don't think it is unrealistic.
