The bad area of the state.
I was curious what people had as a goal for our MBB program in terms of year in year out production.

Does anyone truely think ISU can be a basketball powerhouse with consistant Elite Eight teams with some Final 4 or National Champ teams mixed in?

For arguement sake, in the average 10 years span, how many tourney teams, Sweet 16, EE and FF teams and NC if you want to throw those in?

Tourney Teams - 7
Sweet 16 - 2
EE - 1
FF - 0
NC - 0

I'd like to see some consistency in performance. Consistent winning records. Somewhat consistenly making the dance (say 3 out of 4 years on average).

Being relevant to the conference championship race come March and taking a crown every few years, say on average 5-7. Same holds with the conference tourney. Consistently making the 2nd round in some form.

As for NCAA's, I don't think it's out of line to hope for a Sweet 16 team out of every class - meaning every 4 years or so. Beyond that, I have no expectations for anything more on any regular basis.

I don't think it's completely out of line to kind of expect what we saw out of the 8 or so years Floyd/LE were here. Good conference play. A few conference crowns, both regular season and touney. A few quality NCAA squads (4 or 5 ?), two Sweet 16 teams and the one very special season. Of course there were the couple down years where we didn't show up on any radar. I'd like to avoid the extreme lows - but I think that isn't really implausible or asking too much.

I think that 20+ wins, a top 25 ranking, and a top 5 finish in the Big 12 would be a great goal if we could achieve it consistently. Make NCAA tourney more years than not and atleast make the NIT. Obviously, I'd love to see us do better than that. I think if McD is the coach we think he is, this is an attainable goal and I think our fan base would be very happy with this.

I think the tourny every 3 out of years 4 years or 2-4 years. The NIT the other years. Sometimes we probably will have a fail year.

I think expecting Elite 8, Final 4, and NC teams is a pipe dream, but we should at least be finishing in the top half of the Big 12 and making it to the big dance year in and year out.

Finishing in the basement of the conference with .500 records is not acceptable.

Tim Floyd, Larry E, and Wayne Morgan type on-court success is all I need to keep me happy.

I would be very happy if we could win 20+ games, finish in the top half of the conference, get to the 2nd round of the tournement (one of those years advance further) 3 years out of every 4.

I don't think expecting Elite 8 or Final 4 on occasion, once in every 12-16 years or 1 in every 4 classes roughly is a pipe dream. I think if we attain consistant winning that leads to better players=higher expectations.

McD has proven exactly what type of coach he is.....and that will not get us to any of these goals.

Nope, I just think that he bit off more than he can chew. The Big 12 is not the Valley.

Not trying to be disrespectful but when did you ever get the impression that this is a finished product...still building whether fans like it or not.

Rather than having a goal of getting to a certain point in the tournament, I think it's more helpful to have goals like going undefeated at home or having a certain number of wins overall and in the conference. By getting those things done, we'll get into the tournament.

I certainly hope this isn't the finished product and I will be happy to eat my crow if this turns around in the next couple years. I'm just afraid that once we lose Craig (either now or the end of next year) and if we don't get Barnes (which doesn't look promising) that we just won't have the talent to compete with the upper half of the conference.

We need to consistently finish in the top half of the Big 12. If we do that we will make the post-season consistently.

I sure as hell hope it's not a finished product! My concern is the amount of time it is taking to get a team in here that can be at least 500 in the league, and I'm afraid lots more people will stop buying tickets in the near future.

I'm sure McD wants to win, and it is tearing him up. The same would be said for me if I was in that position, but I can pretty much guarantee that wouldn't get me too far.

I really think next year is NCAA or bust. How many D1 coaches have consistently made the NCAA tourney after not making it the first 4 years on the job?
