kg-cyclone- I can tell you from knowing football players in the past that there were ways to get them spending money, even at ISU.
I'm not talking about spending money...I'm talking about getting them to sign on the dotted line.

For the most part the midwest is clean...

Nothing personal, but your belief is wrong...Even if ISU wanted to cheat, our pockets are not even close to deep enough.

I love it...the old "everyone else but us is cheating" excuse! Is there a serious bending of the rules...your damn right there is. But to posit the thought that pretty much everyone else is cheating is just the stuff of "sore losers". If we are so damned honorable then why don't you start blowing the whistle on all of these crooked programs?

I would love to see the whistle blown, but nothing will happen and there will be a lot of bridges burnt.

It is, what it is...if you want to view it as an excuse...do it. I don't care. The only reason you haven't made my ignore list is because I find your posts humerous because they are so far from the truth.

I figured you'd chime in with that response. Well, believe what you want to believe. But college basketball is extremely dirty.

Rouse in oblivion five years after Baylor scandal - Men's College Basketball - ESPN

"Blowing the whistle" didn't work out so well for Abar Rouse. He's the Baylor assistant that brought light to all the things going on down there.

"Blowing the whistle" is a great way to get out of coaching forever, and that's about it. It's not going to change anything. Paying players and recruits, or giving lush perks dates back to John Wooden. The UCLA boys never were short on cash, and it's only gotten worse.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing, but I am wondering about those posting this statements. Is this opinion or fact and if its fact do you have direct knowledge? I understand not wanting to statehow specifically you know, I'm not asking for names or references. For example, I knew many on the track team at ISU and I could rely on their imput on this subject as far as track and field because it was a first hand account. I don't mean to offend (I'm sure will offend someone) but I'm just looking for why I should take your info (opinion or fact) over someone else on this site.

I'll take one year. It'll give maybe another player room to redshirt to work on his skills.

Someone call Bruce Pearl and ask him what Whistleblowers get. They get you 10 years at a crap college before someone else will give you a shot.

It's a fine line between what is legal and illegal, and claiming that most programs are crooked is a real stretch imo. Is it "not doing things the right way" to getplayers jobs and pay them more than the job is worth, because that goes on everywhere, including ISU. I just get tired of us trying to look down our nose at other programs that are winning and using the excuse that we're doing it the right way to try to make us feel better about losing.

Exactly...fantastic post...my sentiments precisely.

Boy LE must have been breaking some major rules for us to have had the success we had in 99 and 00!

Personally, I have no problem with us recruiting a guy that is so talented that he is a "one and done" guy and goes onto the NBA.

However, this kid has to be a one and done because his eligibility is running out...which is much different than just playing through one season in college to meet the new NBA draft rules. I certainly hope he is talented but I am not holding my breath...if he was really that talented, the NBA would be calling (or would have already called).

Clearly, this shows that GM is desperate...that maybe he finally is getting some sense of urgency. Frankly, I have no problem with seeing this kid come in as long he is able to be a significant factor immediately...which remains to be seen...the JUCO level is nowhere near what the Big 12 level of play is.

The question I have is for all of you GM apologists that are always yammering about how he is "doing it the right way" and building a "long term successful program"...is Gilstrap evidence to support your arguments? I think not.
He's a three point shooter. That's it. He's not Kevin Durant by a long shot.
He's not headed to the NBA. Ever.
There's some talk that he may not even come here. I heard a rumor that his family has said he may play in Europe next year.
It doesn't any sense to me that Mcdermott wants him here for one year.
Not worth the trouble.
