General (non-ISU) Wrestling Twitter/News Thread

That’s what happens when you are satisfied keeping it to a one TD match. Easily could have been his second L of the week.

If he stays conservative will be difficult matching last years success at NCAAs
He has always been that way. Probably not going to change now

Keuter was not overly impressive, but he’s also still working into wrestling shape. I just don’t see him ever being a title contender while trying to play both football and wrestle.
Still strong as a ox and he has the wiggle not many heavies have. The kid from Minny is an undersized heavy also, and just in better wrestling shape. I wouldn’t say he was a “bad” matchup for Keuter out of the shoot, but a guy of his body type isn’t letting Keuter take advantage of his strengths (length and speed) either.

Keuter would get destroyed by the top tier guys right now, and he knows it. Could see it on his face when he left the mat.

I see rumblings on Twitter than the UNI Open was cancelled this weekend. Sounds like we planned to send a huge group, so that is a bit of a bummer.

It takes a massive amount of dedication to be an AA contender in the NCAA. There is no doubt in my mind if Keuter was a full time wrestler, he’d be a high AA contender as early as next year. But with a majority of his time dedicated to football (and smartly so with the NFL potential earnings vs wrestling potential earnings), I just doubt he will ever be at a point where he is a high AA contender. There’s also probably going to be a point in the next year or two where he will have to decide whether to fully dedicate himself to football or not. Hell of an athlete, just an interesting place to be in as far as maximizing his value in one sport vs trying to do both

So Keuter reminds me a bit of Josh Hokit, great athlete and will probably prove to be really good in both sports. Not saying he'll win NCAA's, but to think he won't AA is a big mistake.

Is Josh Hokit the guy that was at Fresno state about five years ago that wrestler and played football?

How are seedings determined for NCAAs?
Coaches involved? Dresser aggressive at these meetings?

Wrestling shape is so different than football shape. It was his first match back. I think give him a few weeks in the wrestling room he will look much different.

No doubt.

A high school classmate of mine wrestled on two bum knees and waited until his career was over to get them operated on. I think he slightly injured one his sophomore year, but really messed up both his junior year. Likely cost him at least one high AA before he cashed in his senior year.

Showed up to our 5 year reunion in crutches and basically kept the injuries and severity under wraps during his career (for obvious reasons). None of us had a clue.

Penn State vs Michigan should be fun this weekend (assuming everyone wrestles from both squads). Honestly quite a few toss-up matches:

125- #14 Davis vs #5 DeAugustino- I'd consider this a toss-up despite the ranking difference. 125 has been a cluster full of upsets, and Davis is pretty good (undefeated so far, but not many high ranked opponents). I think DeAugustino wins a close one. 3-0 Mich

133- #4 Nagao vs #6 Ragusin- Ragusin comes off olympic redshirt and is an immediate high AA contender. Another toss-up, but I think Nagao gets the W. 3-3

141- #2 Bartlett vs #25 Lemley- Bartlett should get at least a major here for PSU. 7-3 PSU

149- #12 Kasak vs #6 Gomez. Talk about embarrassment of riches, PSU loses VanNess (ranked 2nd before his injury) and in steps Kasak who already has some impressive wins and is an AA contender. This will be a high flying match and a toss-up in my opinion, but I think Gomez secures the W for Mich. 7-6 PSU

157- #1 Haines vs #9 Lewan. All Lewan matches seem to be low scoring. I think this will be a pretty boring match with Haines winning by 4-5 points. 10-6 PSU

165- #9 Mesenbrink vs #7 Amine. This will be one hell of a match as well, and I think Mesenbrink gets the W. Outside of O'Toole, Mesenbrink scares me the most for David in March. 13-6 PSU

174- #1 Cstar vs #4 Griffith. I don't think Griffith is close to Cstar right now, but will keep the match to a decision. 16-6 PSU

184- #5 Truax vs #15 Bullock. I expect bonus here from Truax. Guessing it ends up just being a major though. 20-6 PSU

197- #1 Brooks vs #32 Striggow. Brooks by a tech fall here. 25-6 PSU

Hwt- #1 Kerk vs #4 Davison. This will be one hell of a match as well, and I think Kerk wins a close one. 28-6 PSU

Dual is on the Big 10 network tomorrow starting at 5pm CST if you want to watch!

Interested in 125, 133, 149, 165. Don't think Griffith, Davison, Lewan have a chance. Lewan is boring as hell.
