Gator at Disney

Body not only found, but fully intact as well.

That's good. I was debating whether or not you'd even want to find the body. On one hand, it would provide some closure. On the other hand, if it had been bad mauled I'm not sure that's a sight I'd want to see.

Gators tend to stash their food (typically under rock and logs) and come back to it later. My guess is this is why they found it at all, and in tact.

It's just a hotel on the lake, I think probably the most expensive one at the resort, but it's Victorian themed and not really anything to do with animals. The Animal Kingdom Resort would be the one billed as bringing people close to animals.

And the kid wasn't swimming in the water, they were out for a movie night near the beach and the kid was standing near the edge of the water like I'm sure millions of kids have done in the past.

I personally don't see that Disney is all that liable, it's Florida, there's damn near more gators than people in that swampy hell-hole.

According to this last report they were all wading in the water and the kid was in about 1 foot of water. I think this fact would help in Disney's defense.

In my opinion, lawyers will have a field day with this. You have a beach, that leads into a body of water, at a resort geared towards children. You also have signage that basically admits to the water not being safe. I think you could certainly argue with all those factors it becomes incumbent on Disney to owe a little higher duty of care to their patrons than a sign (that a 2 year old kid can't read, of course) saying to stay out of the water.

You must be a Lawyer!

Perhaps I am, but it doesn't take a law degree to see that Disney set this up as a beach for children, admitted some form of danger, and did nothing to protect the kids from the danger short of putting up some signs.

So the gator didn't eat him, hmm.

This quote from the link struck me as odd ""We're going to make certain that we have the alligator that was involved, and that we remove it from the lake," he said."

Morbidly, there wasnt enough time. Anything they cant eat whole, they stash under the water until it rots, then they consume it as its easier to take apart. So gross.

It also doesn't take a law degree to see that every waterway in Florida is subject to gators. Signs or no signs. Just like someone here earlier said it is like a bear at a National Forest. Or Sharks at the ocean. I imagine Disney will do whatever they can do to help the family out. But with Lawyers involved they really can't do anything because then they maybe "admitting fault". This lagoon is private. But it is attached to creeks and lakes that are public.

short of filling in the lake or building a fence (which would be really ugly) there is nothing disney can physically do to protect from this. what else would they do short of draining or building a fence?

Yeah, Florida's comparative negligence, so they won't have to pay everything, but they'll be liable for some of it.

Haven't been able to stop thinking about this all day no matter how hard I try to block it out. What I picture in my head is horrifying and I'm sure it doesn't come close to what that poor family went through. Living with that pain and guilt for the rest of your life would be so hard. Losing a child so young is terrible no matter how it happens but this is an absolute nightmare. No doubt I'll be holding mine extra close tonight.

Saw some blurp about a grandma taking/posting a photo of her grandkid standing just feet from the same water as the incident today.

Some folks just can't figure it out.

I'm just sitting here thinking about my kids when they were 2. I absolutely cannot imagine what the parents are going through right now.

I was in FL, in 1997, when the last toddler was killed. Gators kill their prey and then let them sit in the water to soften before eating the prey. Same thing in 2007, found the body of the toddler floating next to the HUGE gator that grabbed him. Not surprised that they found them body intact. Horrific situation

My niece went to preschool with the older child. This is a horrible situation.
We all have the luxury of dissecting every little detail to understand and try to lay blame when in reality this is just an unthinkable tragedy on an innocent family.
