Garza Vs Niang

That sounds ignorant of you. 6 years was a long time ago (for you, probably) but you should remember that teams would strategize around stopping him to beat us. He was the cog that made the offense work, even if he wasn't always scoring all the points.
All I’m saying is that Niang’s senior year, ISU had 5(!) other guys that made NBA rosters at some point. Cant say the same for Luka.

Garza was runner up for the Naismith last year, and will probably win it this year. He's the best player in college basketball. You could never say that about Niang. Niang is my favorite Iowa State player of all time, but it's pretty hard to argue he was better than Garza. Garza is a better overall scorer, more efficient offensively and a much better rebounder. Niang was a better passer/facilitator. Neither were/are good defensively. Both were GREAT college players.

I HATE Iowa, but come on, Garza is the more dominant college player.

I mean really, take off the ketchup and mustard glasses for once. Garza is about to win the Wooden award, after coming in 2nd last year. I think it’s safe to say he was a better collegiate player than Niang, even if it makes your butts hurt so bad.
Agree, and it does make my butt hurt.

You dont need niang received attention from defenses?
Didn’t say that. He was a consensus all-american I’m pretty sure. He just didn’t receive as much attention as Garza because the roster around him was really good. That’s not a knock on him, that’s just how it is

How so? He’s going to win the KAJ 2 times straight, he’s going to win the Wooden, he will be a 2 time first team consensus all American, he will be a 2 time unanimous first team all big 10 player, and he has set multiple records. Garza is going to be the most decorated player in the states history.
Hawkeyes on here tell us that getting to the pros and drafted is what matters to make good player

It’s this. If you take your bias goggles off Garza is the answer. He’ll be the national player of the year this season, he was the runner up national player of the year last year and will be a two time first team all American and will finish his career as Iowa’s all time leading scorer. Niang will go down as one of ISUs all time greats and an all time fan favorite but his accomplishments are not on the same page as Garza. Niang is a the better overall player but Garza is the better college player. If you put them up against each other from someone with no bias towards either school, they’ll pick Garza every time after looking at they’re college accomplishments.

You're right about a lot of this, but I don't really agree with the bolded. Garza gets more boards because he's taller, but I don't think it's something he excels at.

I think a better comp for Garza would be Fizer. More similar in style of play and positionally

Garaza knows his dad is just going to steal his money anyway so I could see him coming back next year.
Hell Frank deserves a chunk of it. Who knows where Luka would be without the guidance and rigorous training he provided/pushed him with

Both generational type players. I personally don't know how you could choose Georges outside of being a Cyclone fan though. Put Garza in any jersey besides an Iowa one and I think it'd change some people's minds.

If Garza's numbers would've gone down since last year, I think there'd for sure be an argument, but he's only gotten better which is CRAZY. I will say this... Garza has awful luck in that his blow up happened when it did. Him not playing in the Big 10 tournament or NCAA tournament hurt him and his exposure. This year it's a damn shame Iowa fans haven't been able to pack Carver to watch him and this team.

Monte Morris might have been better than either one.

In several advanced statistics (win shares, offensive win shares) he leads Big 12 for career stats that are kept back to 1990.

Georges is definitely the guy who was the best at closing out a game of the three.

Monte was very very good for four years. Garza took a couple years to get get to his peak. Georges was somehow a good closer his freshman year but wasn't a full out starter level player his freshman year.

I'd feel bad, but our fans had to deal with the same thing except in football. That and a lot of their fans suck.

Very correct.

Garza is not more dominant than Fizer's junior year, with KMart hurt to finish the season everyone would have said Fizer was the best player in the NCAA tournament and even with KMart it was close to judge who the best player in college hoops was. Garza has a much better outside shot but he's not better or more physically dominant in the paint, he's infinitely worse in transition and he's worse on D even though Fizer wasn't an elite defender (he could still move his feet faster).

ISU's teams with Fizer played at a very slow physical pace (not just compared to Iowa but compared to most teams these days) so comparing head to head stats is going to be misleading. If Fizer had played four years that last year would have been at least as dominant as the third year with he and Tinsley playing together again.

My all time Iowa Top Five

1) Ronnie Lester
2) Freddy Brown
3) John Johnson
4) Roy Marble
5) Luka Garza
